Daniel Ricciardo made a surprise appearance on the Met Gala red carpet in New York on May 1, 2023. PerthNow described the Perth-raised Australian driver’s look as a striped tuxedo and bow tie; its report did not name the designer.

In its May 2, 2023 report, PerthNow described Ricciardo’s outfit as a striped tuxedo with a bow tie. The report does not identify a designer or brand, so the look can be described by its visible details without assigning it to a maker.
Why the appearance was a surprise
PerthNow framed the red-carpet arrival as unexpected because Ricciardo had reportedly said in 2021 that the gala seemed too formal for him. Quoted by PerthNow from the Pardon My Take podcast, he said: “Yeah, it’s like, don’t get me wrong. I’m sure it would be like an experience, but I don’t know, it seems a little formal for me.”

The gala took place in New York on May 1, 2023. Its theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” as reported in The West Australian’s event coverage. The available account of Ricciardo’s outfit supplies no stated connection between his striped tuxedo and the theme.

PerthNow described Ricciardo as Duncraig-raised and reported that he was back with Red Bull as a third driver in 2023, after leaving McLaren. Those details describe his circumstances around the gala, not his current career status. Tourism Western Australia’s 2024 campaign press kit later referred to his 2023 Met Gala red-carpet appearance as retrospective context.
