Their totals—35 for Delvey and Sosa, and 36 for Spelling and Pashkov—were combined scores from the premiere and the September 24 episode, not scores from that night alone. The Associated Press reported that viewer votes were part of the elimination process; the available reports do not establish that the combined scores alone determined who left.
What was the episode’s theme?
ABC described the September 24 show as an Oscars-themed night, with contestants performing dances inspired by films nominated for Academy Awards. Delvey and Sosa danced to KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See,” according to the Associated Press.

Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong earned the night’s top score: 24 out of 30 for their rumba to “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie. Their combined total across the first two episodes was 47, the highest in ABC’s recap.

Asked what she would take away from the competition, Delvey answered “nothing,” ABC reported. In a later Good Morning America interview, she named “getting eliminated” as her favorite part.
