How the grand finale unfolded
Five finalists performed freestyle routines
Each of the five finalists performed a freestyle. 7NEWS reported that McCune topped the leaderboard with a perfect score for her Hollywood-inspired performance. PerthNow’s reported scores for the finalists were McCune and Ian Waite, 40 and 39; Jade and Gustavo Viglio, 38 and 38; and Middleton and Alex Vladimirov, 34 and 36. These are the scores as reported by PerthNow, not a complete account of how the final result was calculated.
The last contest was McCune versus Jade
After the audience vote, Middleton was eliminated in third place, leaving McCune and Jade to contest the title. The coverage identifies the audience vote as part of the outcome, but does not establish the precise formula used to combine audience votes and judges’ scores. The reported scores alone should not be treated as the deciding factor.

What McCune said after the win
In a post-finale interview with 7NEWS, McCune described the result as unexpected: “It really was unexpected.” She also reflected on the physical demands of the competition: “I think you underestimate how aerobically fit you actually need to be.” PerthNow reported judge Helen Richey’s comment: “You don’t have to be perfect to win this competition.”
