Kelly Hyland disclosed a breast cancer diagnosis in an interview published by E! News on May 29, 2024; ABC News reported the next day that her daughter Brooke confirmed it. ABC described the diagnosis as invasive carcinoma, stage 1, grade 3. At the time, Hyland was undergoing chemotherapy. The latest treatment update located was published by E! News in April 2025, which reported that she had completed her second course of treatment; that report does not establish her health status today.
What Kelly Hyland and her family disclosed
In its May 30, 2024 report, ABC News said Brooke Hyland confirmed her mother’s diagnosis and described it as invasive carcinoma, stage 1, grade 3. That is the wording reported by ABC News, not an independent assessment of Hyland’s medical records.
ABC News also reported that grade 3 cancer “will probably grow and spread faster,” attributing that explanation to the American Cancer Society. It is a general explanation of grade in the report, not a prediction of Hyland’s individual outcome.
What led her to get checked
Hyland told E! News that she had lost weight without changing her day-to-day routine, and that other people noticed. She also found a lump and arranged a mammogram. In the account reported by ABC News, her mammogram eight months earlier had been clear; a later mammogram and sonogram showed a mass. Hyland described the change this way: “I had just had one done eight months prior and the results came back clean. However, this new mammogram and sonogram did not, it came back showing a mass.”

In April 2025, E! News reported that Hyland had completed her second course of treatment. This is the latest located treatment update; it does not say that she was cancer-free or in remission. No cited report establishes her health status as of October 4, 2026.

Reports described Hyland’s children taking turns accompanying her to chemotherapy appointments. Brooke also told ABC News that the family had received an outpouring of support after sharing the news publicly: “Since releasing the news to the public— the love & thoughts pouring in my mom/family’s direction has been incredible.”
