Their joint statement described the decision as difficult, expressed love and respect for each other, and asked for privacy. They did not give a reason for the split.
What Hays and Kaii said in their announcement
In a joint statement reproduced in contemporaneous coverage by The Tennessean and PopCulture, the couple wrote: “We are both deeply saddened to share that we have decided to go our separate ways.” They said the decision “did not come easy” because they had “so much love and respect for one another,” but described it as what was best for both of them.
The statement also asked people to respect their privacy as they navigated what it called an “extremely difficult time.” It did not identify a specific cause for the separation.
Hays’s follow-up message to fans
In a statement reported by People on September 3, 2024, Hays thanked fans for their support and said she needed time to process the change and close the chapter. “I’m beyond grateful for ya’ll giving me the time to process this and close this chapter,” she said. She also wrote that she was looking forward to returning to the road and making people laugh.

Did Hays and Kaii explain why they separated?
No reason was given in their public joint announcement or in Hays’s reported follow-up. Without a stated explanation from them, claims about what caused the split are speculation and should not be treated as fact.
What later reporting says about Hays’s personal life
A People interview republished by AOL in July 2025 reported that Hays had publicly identified Jenn Cooke as her girlfriend. That later relationship is subsequent context; it does not establish why Hays and Kaii separated.
