What was announced about the 2025 raise?
The increase was revealed in season two of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, which began streaming on Netflix on June 18, 2025. ABC News reports that the announcement appears in episode seven, “Saturn Returns.”
Four-year veteran Megan McElaney said, “Our efforts were heard and they wanted to give us a raise,” adding, “And we ended up getting a 400% increase, which is like, life-changing.” Teammate Armani Latimer said, “We pushed, and we got back good results.” ABC News also quoted the Cowboys as saying, “We’re pleased, as you’ll see in the series, that the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were happy with the outcome.” ABC News
ABC described the raise as approximately 400%; The Washington Post characterized it as roughly 400%. The percentage is a reported statement from a cheerleader, not a published or independently audited pay schedule.

How much do the cheerleaders make now?
The exact post-increase rates are not established in the cited coverage. TIME reported that the series did not disclose exact pay and that the Cowboys would not confirm the rates to the publication. Fortune likewise noted that the episode did not provide hard figures or the previous pay amounts. Without a confirmed starting rate and details of the compensation structure, “400% increase” cannot be converted responsibly into a precise hourly wage, game-day payment, or annual salary. What led up to the increase?
The raise followed a longer effort to improve compensation, alongside growing public scrutiny of cheerleaders’ pay. Season two shows discussions about compensation, meetings, and the possibility of a walkout. Jada McLean, a five-year veteran who helped lead negotiations, told TIME that the series and viewers speaking up motivated the cheerleaders to advocate more forcefully for themselves. She said the group did not ultimately walk out because members worried about disappointing fans.

McLean described the public response this way: “Having people watch the television show and speak up honestly on behalf of us and say, ‘Hey, this is not right. Former cheerleader Erica Wilkins sued the Cowboys in 2018; ABC News reported that a September 2019 settlement doubled game-day pay from $200 to $400. TIME reported that it depicts members balancing other work with team duties and shows concerns about financial strain. That visibility forms part of the story McLean described, but neither the documentary nor the public statements cited here provide a verified new pay scale.
