Playing the song’s Madeline character, Johnson began behind a sheer curtain in a lace teddy and embellished robe before joining Allen onstage.
What happened in Lily Allen’s “Madeline” performance?
Allen performed “Sleepwalking” and “Madeline” during the broadcast. For “Madeline,” Johnson appeared behind a sheer curtain, lounging on a bed and reading texts. She then emerged to join Allen, kissed her on the cheek, and ended the scene with, “Love and light.” Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar both describe the curtain reveal and the onstage moment.
What did Dakota Johnson wear on SNL?
Johnson wore a lingerie-inspired Bode look: a 1920s-inspired lace teddy dress with gold ribbons and rosette appliqué, topped with a sheer duster of black mesh and crinkled gold foil. Vogue also reported purple beaded Lizzie Fortunato earrings, a Roxanne Assoulin emerald necklace, and rings by Sophie Bille Brahe and Jessica McCormack. Vogue’s outfit report describes those details.
The Bode pieces and stylist
Marie Claire identifies the garments as the Bode Corinthia Teddy and Sheer Fête Duster, and credits stylist Kate Young. The publication reported prices of $900 for the teddy and $1,380 for the duster in its 2025 coverage; those are reported figures, not verified current prices.

Why was Johnson playing Madeline?
Johnson portrayed the character in Allen’s song rather than appearing as herself in a separate sketch. Vogue describes the song as involving a woman Allen’s narrator confronts over an affair, while Harper’s Bazaar situates it in the album’s story of a marriage breakdown. The performance coverage does not establish that Madeline is a real person, so the character’s role in the song should not be treated as evidence about anyone’s identity.
Was the later pink-and-blue outfit the same look?
No. Marie Claire reported that Johnson changed into a different semi-sheer pink-and-blue outfit later in the evening. That was a separate look from the black-and-gold Bode costume worn for “Madeline.” Marie Claire’s coverage distinguishes the two.
