When does Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 come out?

What is the new series about?
Netflix calls it a standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077, describing it as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.” The official synopsis is available on Netflix Media Center. Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED say the story follows a new crew of hired guns in Night City, with a new voice cast and a reimagined animation style.
“Standalone” is the key distinction: the announcement presents Edgerunners 2 as a new story in the same setting, not as a promised continuation of the first series’ characters. The available announcements do not provide further plot details or identify the new cast.

Do you need to watch the original or play Cyberpunk 2077 first?
The sequel is described as standalone, so the announcements do not establish either the original anime or the game as required viewing or playing. The game is the setting’s source world, but the series is presented as its own story. If you want to explore Night City interactively, Cyberpunk 2077 is an optional companion, not prerequisite homework.
Why is the show being called one of Netflix’s best-reviewed?
The phrase refers to the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, not the unreleased sequel. In a September 23, 2024 article, BGR reported that the original had a 100% critics’ score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside more than 2,500 user ratings. Those are figures reported in that article’s publication-time snapshot, not verified current scores or proof that the series ranks among Netflix’s all-time best-reviewed shows. BGR’s report.
The original series premiered September 13, 2022. Netflix describes it as a standalone 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City; its production credits include CD PROJEKT RED and Studio Trigger.
