Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is officially coming to Netflix on October 20, 2026. The heads-up for fans is that “sequel” does not mean a direct continuation of David and Lucy’s story: CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a standalone series with a fresh cast, set in the same Cyberpunk 2077 world.
Is Edgerunners 2 a continuation of David’s story?
No. The announced series is a standalone, ten-episode story with a fresh cast, rather than a direct next chapter for David and Lucy. The studio has not said that every familiar character or reference is absent, so “standalone” should not be read as a guarantee that nothing from the first series can appear.
Bartosz Sztybor, the series’ showrunner, story writer and producer, put the distinction plainly in CD PROJEKT RED’s announcement: “David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City.” The word “warning” in the headline is a viewer heads-up about expectations, not a warning issued by the studio. When does Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 come out?
The official series site lists October 20, 2026, exclusively on Netflix. CD PROJEKT RED announced that exact date on August 21, 2026, after an earlier teaser had given only a fall 2026 window. What is the new series about?
The official premise centers on Weak, a former cyberpunk legend living without chrome, and D, a nomad pursuing revenge. The story is described in terms of family, obsession and legacy. Netflix Tudum characterizes the new installment as following a fresh group of hired guns and describes its animation style as reimagined; that is Netflix’s description, not a quantified comparison with the first series.
Who is making Edgerunners 2?
CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER are collaborating on the series. Kai Ikarashi directs; Kanno Ichigo is lead character designer; Bartosz Sztybor is showrunner, story writer and producer; and Masahiko Otsuka is credited with screenplay adaptation. These are the named roles in the announcements, not a statement that the entire creative team from the original has or has not returned.

What the franchise numbers do—and do not—tell us
KADOKAWA reported in 2025 that the video game Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 30 million copies worldwide. That is a game-sales figure, not a measure of either anime’s audience or expected viewership for Edgerunners 2.
