Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new standalone anime set in Night City, is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026. It returns to the world of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners with a fresh cast and a story separate from the first series’ protagonist-centered plot.
When does Edgerunners 2 come out, and where can you watch it?
The announced premiere date is October 20, 2026, and Netflix is the exclusive platform. CD PROJEKT RED confirmed the date in its August 21, 2026 press release; the series is also listed on the Netflix title page. Check Netflix in your region for local availability.
The series is announced as ten episodes. The premiere date is confirmed, but no episode-by-episode release schedule is specified in the announcements.
Is Edgerunners 2 a sequel to the first series?
It is a new installment in the same franchise and returns to Night City, but it is described as a standalone series with a new group of characters. The announcement does not present it as a continuation of David and Lucy’s story, so viewers should not expect the original cast to be the center of this plot. CD PROJEKT RED describes the project as a standalone story in its series announcement.

What is the new story about?
The official synopsis introduces Weak, a once-prominent edgerunner now living without chrome, and D, a nomad seeking revenge. Their story is framed around revenge, redemption, family, obsession and legacy. CD PROJEKT RED says: “Across this ten-episode standalone series, uncover a story of family, obsession, legacy — and how your lens reflects the stories of the people around you.”
That premise points to a different set of characters and conflicts while keeping the show in the Cyberpunk 2077 world. The synopsis does not establish how, or whether, characters from the first series will appear.
Who is making the series?
CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER are collaborating on the show. The official series page names Kai Ikarashi as director and Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer, with Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka among the creative leads. The original production announcement identifies Sztybor as showrunner, story writer and producer.

Explore the game world
Cyberpunk 2077 is a separate video game set in the world named by the series materials. It can offer another way to explore Night City, but it is not a prerequisite for watching the anime. See the official Cyberpunk 2077 site for game information.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS is an official prequel comic about Rebecca and Pilar before they meet David and the others. KADOKAWA announced the Japanese print volume for August 28, 2025, and listed Dark Horse Comics as the English publisher with a scheduled February 24, 2026 release.
