The season is funny and familiar, with a finale that deliberately revisits the courtroom ending of Seinfeld. That callback gives the series a memorable finish, even if some of the season’s comic machinery feels less fresh than it once did.
Is Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 worth watching?
Yes, especially for viewers who enjoy the show’s precise social irritations, awkward confrontations and ensemble chemistry. Season 12 retains the pleasure of watching Larry David turn a minor disagreement into a sprawling feud. Its Atlanta storyline gives the season more continuity than a string of unrelated mishaps, and the finale makes that story part of a knowingly self-referential goodbye.
The qualification is that familiarity cuts both ways. Some late-season situations feel like variations on comic patterns the series has used before, and critics were not unanimous about the season’s focus or freshness. It is a satisfying send-off rather than a convincing claim that the show is operating at its peak.
What is the season’s story?
The season begins with “Atlanta,” which aired February 4, 2024, and introduces the incident that becomes its central thread. While in a voting line in Atlanta, Larry gives water to Leon’s aunt. The gesture leads to his arrest and, eventually, a criminal trial. Larry also briefly becomes a public hero associated with opposition to voter suppression—a role that sits uneasily, and amusingly, beside his usual self-absorption.

That premise gives the season a connective plot without replacing the show’s familiar episodic engine: social rules are disputed, misunderstandings grow, and Larry’s conviction that he is right keeps making things worse. The main story is most useful as a frame for the finale; individual episodes still draw much of their comedy from separate grievances and encounters.
How does the finale end?
The finale, “No Lessons Learned,” aired April 7, 2024. It points directly toward Seinfeld’s courtroom finale: Larry is on trial, and the resemblance is part of the joke rather than a hidden reference. The case is thrown out after Jerry tells Larry that a juror broke sequestration.
The ending works because it acknowledges the history viewers bring to Larry David’s work without asking the season to become a solemn farewell. Guardian critic Stuart Heritage called the finale “less an episode of television and more an exorcism,” an apt description of how deliberately it confronts the earlier courtroom ending. The callback is the season’s clearest organizing payoff; the resolution is intentionally comic, not a realistic legal procedural.
What remains funny—and what feels familiar?
Larry’s social-rule warfare
The enduring joke is not simply that Larry is rude. He treats everyday conventions as debatable rules, then pursues his interpretation long after a more tactful person would let the matter go. Season 12 still finds comic force in that mismatch between the small trigger and the disproportionate fallout.

The ensemble’s counterweight
Larry’s conflicts land better when the people around him are more than witnesses to his irritation. Jack Seale’s Guardian review notes Leon’s stronger independent presence and a more collective domestic dynamic. Leon can unsettle Larry’s self-image and redirect a scene, rather than merely serve as an audience for Larry’s complaints. The returning regulars likewise help make familiar setups feel lived-in.
The limits of the formula
The same recognizable structure can make some stories feel less surprising. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus describes the series as bowing out “as cranky and shaggy as ever”; reactions on the page range from appreciation of that comic identity to criticism that the season is unfocused or a “lesser thing.” That split captures the trade-off: the show remains distinctly itself, but not every escalation has the snap of its sharpest years.

How critics received Season 12
At the time it was accessed in 2026, Metacritic listed an 82 Metascore from 18 critic reviews: 17 positive, one mixed and none negative. That is an aggregator snapshot, not a measure of every viewer’s response, and the score can change. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus is also broadly positive while leaving room for reservations about the season’s looseness and relative freshness.
Seale’s Guardian review identifies a softer quality in some of the comedy, while arguing that David’s comic instincts remain effortless. He points to the premiere’s deliberately awkward imitation of a boring party guest as an example of the show still finding mileage in social discomfort. Taken together, the reviews suggest a well-liked final season whose pleasures are more rooted in character and comic identity than in reinvention.
