Crunchyroll’s U.S. monthly prices rose by $2 for each premium tier. The free ad-supported viewing option ended on December 31, 2025, according to Ars Technica; Crunchyroll announced the new prices on February 2, 2026. The timing makes these successive changes, but the available announcements do not establish that ending free viewing caused the increase.

When existing subscribers see the increase
Crunchyroll said existing monthly subscribers would see the adjusted price on their next billing date after March 4, 2026. That is not the same as saying every subscriber was charged the new price on March 4: the timing depends on each subscriber’s billing date.

When the free tier ended—and what the timing shows
Ars Technica reported on February 2, 2026 that Crunchyroll’s free ad-supported viewing ended December 31, 2025. The price announcement followed weeks later. The dates establish the order of events, not a causal link between the free-tier shutdown and the price increase.
What to check before choosing a plan
Crunchyroll’s premium plans page describes ad-free access to its library, while noting that benefits differ by tier and region. To choose between plans, compare the current local offer for monthly cost, simultaneous streams, downloads, and other listed benefits rather than relying on a feature list that may not match your country. Promotional offers can renew at the applicable regular price, so check the checkout screen for the renewal amount and terms before subscribing.
