Who killed Maria in the Cross Season 1 finale?
Peter killed Alex Cross’s wife, Maria. The finale also reveals that Miss Nancy, who had been introduced as Damon’s piano teacher and a trusted adult around the Cross family, helped Peter and concealed his past. Their threat to Alex’s family forms the season’s second major danger, alongside Alex’s investigation of serial killer Ed Ramsey.

Alex and John work together to stop the immediate threat to the family. That confrontation answers the central question of who was behind Maria’s death, but the emotional consequences remain part of Alex’s story.
Does Nana Mama survive, and what happens to the Cross family?
Yes. Nana Mama survives. The family comes together at the end to watch Damon perform, giving the finale a moment of reunion after the danger surrounding them.

What changes between Alex and John?
Alex apologizes to John and admits that, since Maria died, he has been angry with his brother for telling him he needed help. He recognizes that his response damaged their brotherhood. John accepts the apology, and they embrace.
Alex also tells his therapist that he is ready to talk about his grief. That signals a willingness to begin dealing with Maria’s death, not that his grief or the strain between the brothers has been permanently resolved. Actor Isaiah Mustafa likewise cautioned that the apparent reconciliation does not mean everything between Alex and John is settled (TV Insider’s post-finale interview).

What happens to Ed Ramsey and Bobby Trey?
Ed Ramsey
Alex and John have evidence against Ed in his scrapbook, and they destroy it. Ed is enraged because the book represents his attempt to make himself memorable. The finale points toward evidence that could send him to prison; it does not establish that he dies.
Bobby Trey
Kayla works to get Bobby Trey to confess. The finale leaves his legal and personal future open, along with the consequences that may follow from the evidence against Ed. The ending resolves the immediate danger without tying off every thread.

How does the finale connect to Season 2?
Season 2 shifts the case focus rather than simply continuing Peter and Miss Nancy’s specific plot. In the official premise, billionaire Lance Durand contacts the FBI after receiving a death threat linked to the murder of a billionaire playboy. Alex and FBI agent Kayla Craig lead the protection effort and investigation, while John makes an unexpected connection. The season keeps Alex’s work as a homicide detective and forensic psychologist in view, but its central case is a new one.

That shift leaves room for the series to carry forward Alex’s grief, his relationship with John and unresolved consequences from Season 1 without making the Durand case a direct continuation of Maria’s murder investigation. The Season 2 overview from Skydance describes the new premise and says the season is streaming on Prime Video.

How does the show relate to the Alex Cross books?
Cross is based on characters from James Patterson’s Alex Cross books, but that connection does not establish that the Season 1 finale adapts a particular novel. Treat the series’ ending as its own screen-story resolution rather than assuming the books follow the same events. For background on the adaptation, creator and showrunner Ben Watkins told About Amazon Australia: “For this to work—and it’s one of the things I’m most proud of about this series—Alex Cross can’t be a superhero.” The comment fits the finale’s emphasis on Alex’s vulnerability alongside his detective work (About Amazon Australia’s series feature).
