Several crew members were injured when a truck and a car collided during a rehearsed second-unit action sequence for The Pickup outside Atlanta on April 20, 2024. Reports differed on how many were hospitalized: The Associated Press said two crew members were taken to a hospital, while TheWrap later reported eight. The film’s stars, including Eddie Murphy, were not on set when the crash occurred.
What happened during the Georgia shoot?
The collision occurred during production of Amazon MGM Studios’ The Pickup at a location outside Atlanta. The Associated Press reported that a truck “locked up” and hit a car during a rehearsed second-unit sequence, citing a person close to production who was not authorized to speak publicly. The studio confirmed that an accident happened during the sequence and that crew members were injured.
In a video report published April 26, 2024, TheWrap said footage showed an armored truck flipping over a smaller vehicle, which also flipped. That account describes what the later video coverage showed; it is not an official accident reconstruction. The available reporting does not establish a definitive mechanical cause.
How many crew members were hospitalized?
The reported totals differ, so they should be read as separate accounts rather than combined into a single confirmed count.

| The Associated Press, April 23, 2024 | Two crew members were taken to a hospital; one remained hospitalized on April 23. | Injuries ranged from bumps and bruises to broken bones. AP reported that all were expected to make a full recovery. |
| TheWrap, April 26, 2024 | Eight crew members were reported hospitalized. | TheWrap’s video report described the crash footage and cited a GoFundMe page for dolly grip Marvin Haven in reporting on severe injuries. Those details were attributed to the fundraiser, not an official studio or medical statement. |
Amazon MGM Studios did not identify the injured crew members’ roles or provide detailed injury information in comments reported by AP. The studio said: “Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result.”
Were Eddie Murphy and the other stars present?
No. The Associated Press reported that Eddie Murphy and the other principal stars, including Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson, were not on set at the time of the crash. The accident happened during a second-unit sequence, rather than while the principal stars were present.

What did the studio, IATSE and OSHA say?
Amazon MGM Studios
The studio said it was gathering facts about what happened and why. Its spokesperson also said the cast and crew’s well-being was a priority, and that safety precautions had been reviewed before and monitored during the shoot. Those are the studio’s statements, not independent findings about how the crash occurred.
IATSE
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) told AP it was aware of the accident and had begun an inquiry. At the time, the union said it could not provide further details.
OSHA inspection
TheWrap reported on October 23, 2024, that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had closed its inspection of Armored Film LLC on October 17 without finding violations of workplace safety and health regulations. An OSHA spokesperson told TheWrap: “OSHA conducted a thorough investigation of Armored Film LLC and the inspection did not result in violations of workplace safety and health regulations.” The spokesperson added: “The inspection was closed October 17, 2024.”
The reported inspection outcome does not change the fact that the collision and crew injuries occurred. It also does not establish the precise mechanical cause of the crash.
