Bruce’s family announced his death through his official website, describing him as a husband, father and grandfather and saying that “he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.” The family statement did not specify a cause of death. The Guardian’s obituary attributed his death to liver disease.

What was Jack Bruce known for?
Cream’s bassist and songwriter
Bruce formed Cream with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. He was the group’s bassist and singer, and his official biography credits him with composing many of its best-known songs, including “I Feel Free,” “Sunshine of Your Love” and “White Room.”
A career beyond Cream
Before and around his years in Cream, Bruce played with Alexis Korner’s Blues Inc., the Graham Bond Organization, John Mayall and Manfred Mann. He also built a long solo career. His album Silver Rails, released worldwide in early 2014, was his 14th solo album, according to his official biography.
