That premise puts the film’s central balancing act in view: whether the Nohara family’s comedy and the bond at the story’s heart can hold their place amid the spectacle. The available official materials establish that setup, but not an independent critical verdict; this review therefore distinguishes the film’s documented framing from judgments that require seeing it.
What is Our Dinosaur Diary about?
The story opens with Dino’s Island, a Tokyo theme park where dinosaurs have been revived. Shinnosuke and the Kasukabe Defense Force visit, while Shiro finds Nana, a small dinosaur, near Kasukabe. Nana becomes part of the Nohara family’s summer, and the official synopsis hints at a secret surrounding her without disclosing it.
A later incident sends dinosaurs loose, putting Tokyo and Kasukabe in danger. Shinnosuke, Shiro and the Defense Force try to protect Nana. The premise shifts from a family’s unusual summer to a larger adventure, while keeping Shiro and Nana’s friendship at its center.
What kind of movie is it—and what can a review establish?
The film’s official promotion presents it as a mix of humor, emotional moments and friendship across species. That is the filmmakers’ framing, not proof that the comedy, emotion and action are equally successful. A full critical assessment depends on the film itself: whether Shiro and Nana’s relationship remains important as the danger grows, whether the jokes support rather than interrupt the emotional story, and whether younger viewers can follow the larger set pieces.

Those are useful questions for viewers deciding whether the premise suits them, but the official synopsis and promotional material cannot answer them. No independent review quotations or critical consensus are established by the sources cited here, so a score or claim that the film is widely praised or criticized would overstate the evidence.
