Mark’s public story includes his relationship with Kelsey and the loss that ABC’s biography says shaped his search for love. That can make a lead’s journey feel grounded in relationships that matter beyond the dating format. When TheWrap asked him in September 2024 about the experience, Mark described the advice he had given Kelsey: “Be yourself … talk from your heart … be true to yourself; don’t do things that aren’t you.” It is a thoughtful approach to appearing on reality TV, though advice to a family member is not proof of how he would lead a season. Mark joined Joan Vassos’s season hoping to return home with her, according to ABC’s cast biography. Having experienced the franchise as a contestant could help him understand the attention and emotional demands involved in televised dating. It is reasonable to see that familiarity as a potential advantage, but there is no public statement from ABC describing it as a selection criterion.

What Mark has actually said about becoming the lead
His comments changed over time, and the distinction matters. In March 2024, before his own Golden Bachelorette casting, he joked, “No, I’m too young!” when asked whether he wanted to be the next Golden Bachelor. Bachelor Nation reported that response on March 8, 2024; it was an early, joking answer, not his later position.

In November 2024, Mark told TheWrap he would “definitely consider” becoming the next Golden Bachelor, adding, “it’s been a fantastic experience for me.” He also said he was “not an instant no person” and would reflect on the process and talk with his children if the opportunity arose. He was speaking hypothetically: TheWrap reported that ABC had not officially offered him the role. His comments show conditional openness, not an offer, acceptance, or confirmed casting. Why the “next Golden Bachelor” question needs a date check
Fan speculation about Mark began in 2024, but later developments changed the meaning of “next.” A franchise season-history reference reports that ABC announced Mel Owens as the lead for the second U.S. season in April 2025. That makes Mark’s candidacy a question about a possible future season, not the already-named lead. There is no cited statement from an ABC executive or producer backing Mark as a future lead, and the public information here does not establish a current casting plan.
