Barstool Sports’ Fore Play announced on October 27, 2025, that golf professional Cody “Beef” Franke had died at 31 after what it described as a “sudden medical issue” over the weekend. The announcement did not identify a specific cause of death.
What happened to Cody “Beef” Franke?
Fore Play, Barstool Sports’ golf brand and podcast, announced Franke’s death on October 27, 2025. Its statement said he died after a “sudden medical issue” over the weekend. That is the wording of the announcement, not a diagnosis; the reviewed coverage did not establish a specific medical cause. Fore Play’s statement, reproduced by iHeartRadio, said: “Cody truly loved the game of golf.” It added that he “selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game.”
What is known about the circumstances?
The Independent reported that Barstool colleague Dan “Big Cat” Katz said Franke had been attending a wedding in the Dominican Republic. That detail is attributed to Katz; the coverage does not connect the wedding to the medical issue or establish it as an explanation for his death. The Independent’s report said the cause was not immediately known.
Who was Cody “Beef” Franke?
Franke was a golf professional and instructor who became Fore Play’s head golf professional. His golf-tip videos helped bring his instruction to a wider online audience. Before joining Barstool, he worked at golf facilities including Thornberry Creek in Wisconsin and Desert Willow in California, and reporting says he completed the PGA Golf Management program at Ferris State University. Golfweek’s coverage provides career and PGA-program context.
