The nominations were determined by 6,609 eligible CMA voting members. The CMA said winners would be selected in a final round of voting by eligible members. The final ballot was scheduled to be distributed October 1, 2024, with voting ending October 29 at 6:00 p.m. Central Time. Deloitte was identified as the professional services organization tabulating the ballots.

A nomination total can combine very different types of recognition. For example, Wallen’s total includes artist categories, songwriting recognition, a collaboration, and a music-video credit. In the same way, a Single of the Year nomination can recognize the recording’s artist or artists as well as its producers and mix engineer, while Song of the Year is a songwriter-focused category. Musician of the Year recognizes an instrumentalist, and Music Video of the Year recognizes the credited director as well as the featured performer.
