On May 23, 2024, Clairo shared “Sexy to Someone” and announced Charm, her third studio album. Its release date was July 12, 2024, as reported by Pitchfork.

Clairo co-produced the album with Leon Michels. Pitchfork reported that it was recorded live to tape at Diamond Mine in Queens and Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York. That recording approach distinguishes the album’s making from a process built solely by layering parts individually in a studio.
Where “Sexy to Someone” fits on the album
“Sexy to Someone” is the second track on Charm, following the opener “Nomad.” The official Japanese-label listing gives the full 11-track sequence:

The Guardian’s interviewer framed the single around the feeling that life can drag when someone lacks a crush, and referred to the lyric phrase “a reason to get out of the house.” That is the interviewer’s description, rather than an official synopsis of the song.
How Clairo described making Charm
In a later interview with Elle Hunt for The Guardian, Clairo contrasted the album’s collaborative process with her earlier way of working: “I’d been used to making music with just one person, building up the song as we go, but I made Charm with a group of people.” She said letting collaborators contribute—and then experiencing the finished songs as a listener—felt freeing.

In that interview, Clairo also discussed the record through ideas of uncertainty, desire and connection. Those themes offer context for the album without reducing its songs to a single narrative.
Sound and physical editions
Universal Music Japan describes Charm as a warm record inspired by 1970s jazz, psychedelic folk and soul grooves. This is the label’s characterization, not a formal genre classification.

The label’s Japanese catalog includes a physical SHM-CD edition, catalog number UICB-1026, released July 12, 2024. Its listing includes “Sexy to Someone.” This confirms that edition existed, but does not establish current stock or price. The label’s later sales report also refers to vinyl editions, but does not establish which pressings are currently available.

In a July 23, 2024 report about the U.S. chart dated July 27, Universal Music Japan reported 49,000 album-equivalent units and 33,500 album sales for Charm. The label also reported 15,000 vinyl copies, and said eight vinyl variants and four deluxe boxes contributed to first-week album sales. These are historical figures reported by the label; they are not independently verified chart data here.
