Cillian Murphy met visual artist Yvonne McGuinness in 1996, around the time he was cast in Disco Pigs. They married in 2004, have two sons, and moved from London to Dublin in 2015. The broad milestones are documented; the couple has kept most details of its private life out of public view.
How did Cillian Murphy meet his wife?
Murphy met McGuinness in 1996, during the period when he was cast in Disco Pigs, the play that helped launch his acting career. In a 2025 interview with BFI’s Sight and Sound, Murphy looked back on 1996 as “a massive hinge moment in my life,” connecting the year with both the play and meeting his future wife. In an excerpt from a 2016 Guardian interview reproduced by The Knot, he recalled that McGuinness came on tour with the company.

The public record supports the main milestones, not a detailed dating history. The couple has not publicly established an engagement date, the precise length of their courtship, or a wedding date within 2004. Some entertainment coverage has reported that the wedding took place at a vineyard in Provence, but the cited accounts do not establish that detail through a direct statement from Murphy or McGuinness. The 2024 awards appearances are public occasions, not evidence that the couple has changed its preference for privacy.
