In a December 2020 interview, Venezuelan singer Chyno Miranda said that after COVID-19 he developed severe pain, tingling and numbness in his legs, and eventually lost the ability to walk. People en Español reported that he was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy and described a hospital and physical-therapy recovery. His account documents his experience at that time; it does not establish how often COVID-19 causes neuropathy or indicate his current health.
What symptoms did Chyno Miranda describe?
Miranda told People en Español that his coronavirus illness in early 2020 brought extreme muscle pain and a lack of oxygen. About seven months after recovering, he began to feel pain and tingling in his toes. The symptoms progressed to numbness and strong pain in his legs. In the publication’s English-language account, he recalled: “I started to feel numbing and strong pains in my legs.” People en Español, December 18, 2020; Spanish-language interview, December 17, 2020.

His wife, Natasha Araos, described a night when the pain and inability to move led him to fall from bed and receive hospital care. Miranda said that being unable to walk made him fear for his career: “In bed, without being able to walk, the first thing I thought was: my artistic career is over.” People en Español also reported that he had lost 22 pounds during the illness and its aftermath; that figure was reported for his individual case, not as a general effect of COVID-19.
What did the reports say about his diagnosis?
The interview coverage said Miranda had been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy and presented his understanding that it followed COVID-19. That is an account of his individual case, not an independently documented clinical evaluation in the article. A separate People en Español explainer quoted neurologist Carlos Ramírez-Mejía, who had not treated Miranda, offering general context: “Neuropathy is a very nonspecific term. It means disease of the nerves that can be caused by diabetes, alcoholism, toxins, viruses.” He described neuropathy as a broad term with multiple possible causes and said outcomes vary. His comments do not verify Miranda’s diagnosis or establish that COVID-19 routinely causes the condition. People en Español’s explainer, December 17, 2020.

What peripheral neuropathy means
Peripheral neuropathy refers broadly to disease or damage involving nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. The term alone does not identify a single cause or predict a person’s recovery. The neurologist’s explanation was general information, not a diagnosis or treatment plan for readers.

People en Español reported that Miranda spent about a month in the hospital receiving therapy, followed by rehabilitation at home. His reported program focused on coordination and balance and included weights and muscle electrostimulation. The English-language account also mentioned massage and exercise on an elliptical machine. These are descriptions of the care he said he received, not recommendations for treatment or home equipment.
In December 2020, Araos said he had regained the ability to walk and described his improvement as “almost 90 percent.” She also said, “They tell me he has had a great evolution.” The “almost 90 percent” figure was her family-reported estimate at the time, not a standardized medical measurement. Miranda spoke of hope during his recovery: “There is always hope because God, just because of the fact that you are alive and breathing, blesses you every second.” People en Español, December 18, 2020.
What did he say publicly in 2021?
In a report published July 22, 2021, Caracol Televisión described a public video in which Miranda discussed loss of mobility and speech, peripheral neuropathy, encephalitis, depression and sadness. This is Caracol’s reporting of his public remarks at that time; it does not establish his present condition. Caracol Televisión, July 22, 2021.
