“Feels So Good” and his popular breakthrough
Mangione’s best-known song, “Feels So Good,” brought him international success in 1977. The Associated Press reports that the single peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s adult contemporary chart. Those chart positions are figures reported by the AP obituary.

Mangione later reflected on the song’s impact in a 2008 interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, quoted by the AP: “It identified for a lot of people a song with an artist, even though I had a pretty strong base audience that kept us out there touring as often as we wanted to, that song just topped out there and took it to a whole other level.”
A broader jazz career
Mangione was a flugelhorn and trumpet player, jazz composer, bandleader, and recording artist. The AP reports that he released more than 30 albums and won two Grammy Awards: one in 1977 for Bellavia and another for the film score The Children of Sanchez. His career extended well beyond the pop success of “Feels So Good.”

How was Chuck Mangione connected to King of the Hill?
On the animated series King of the Hill, Mangione played a fictionalized version of himself: a spokesman for the made-up Mega Lo Mart. The store’s joke slogan, “shopping feels so good,” riffed on his signature hit. The role was a comic television portrayal, not a real-world job at the retailer.
