Luc Besson’s Dracula casts Caleb Landry Jones as a prince who becomes the vampire after his wife dies, while Christoph Waltz is among the film’s named cast. The first trailer frames the story as a supernatural romance: Dracula, described as an “immortal warlord,” seeks to bring his lost love back from death. The film has since been released in the United States.
What does the first trailer reveal?
The trailer presents Dracula not only as a vampire but as a bereaved ruler pursuing reunion with the woman he lost. Vertical’s official trailer describes him as an “immortal warlord” seeking to bring his lost love back from death. That framing makes romantic tragedy central to the premise rather than treating the film solely as a monster story.

Vertical’s official synopsis gives the origin of that pursuit: “When a 15th-century prince (Caleb Landry Jones) denounces God after the devastating loss of his wife (Zoë Bleu), he inherits an eternal curse: he becomes Dracula.” The trailer and synopsis establish the film’s central transformation and motivation, but do not, by themselves, supply a full account of the plot.
Who is in Luc Besson’s Dracula?
The official cast listing names Caleb Landry Jones, Christoph Waltz and Zoë Bleu. Jones plays the prince who becomes Dracula, and Bleu is identified as his wife. Vertical’s accessible synopsis does not identify Waltz’s character, so his role should not be inferred from the cast listing alone.

The headline’s “Frankenstein” reference points to Waltz’s appearance in another monster story: the Motion Picture Association identifies him as Harlander in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. These are separate films and roles; that credit does not establish that Waltz plays Dracula in Besson’s film.
Has the film been released?
Yes. Vertical’s official U.S. trailer listing gave Dracula a U.S. release date of February 6, 2026. That date has passed as of October 8, 2026, so the trailer is now an introduction to a released film, not an upcoming one. Release dates varied by territory; Unifrance’s listing provides territory-specific information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does the film balance romance and horror?
The official premise puts grief and the desire to recover a lost love at the heart of Dracula’s transformation. The Associated Press review describes Besson’s film as a reimagining of the familiar Dracula tale and notes its emphasis on romance alongside its vampire story. It reports a U.S. R rating for violence, some gore and sexuality; classifications differ between countries, so that rating should not be treated as universal.
