Chris Brown was released on bail in May 2025 after a London court set a £5 million security amount, reported at the time as approximately $6.7 million. The case has since moved on: on July 24, 2026, Brown pleaded guilty to affray, and sentencing was scheduled for October 26, 2026. That sentencing date had not arrived as of October 8, 2026.

Why was Chris Brown granted bail, and what did the amount mean?

Brown was arrested in May 2025 after returning to the United Kingdom for a concert in Manchester. He was initially denied bail and ordered into custody, then released by a London judge on May 21 after a £5 million security amount was set. The Associated Press reported the amount as approximately $6.7 million at the time. The arrangement allowed his tour to proceed.

The £5 million figure was tied to his release on bail. It was not reported as a fine, compensation for the alleged victim, or a sentence. The available reporting does not establish that it was ultimately forfeited.

What happened at the London nightclub?

The incident took place in the early hours of February 19, 2023, at Tape London in Hanover Square, central London. According to the Crown Prosecution Service’s account, Brown struck the victim twice over the head with a glass bottle, and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu joined in. Prosecutors said the victim went to St Mary’s Hospital with head and knee injuries.

#1 Best Overall

Claire Campbell, Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London South, described it as “a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice.” This is the prosecution’s account; it should not be confused with a separate finding after a trial. Brown’s later guilty plea was to affray.

What charge did Brown admit, and what happened to the original charges?

On July 24, 2026, Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Southwark Crown Court. Brown had pleaded not guilty to a grievous-bodily-harm charge at a June 2025 hearing, but that earlier plea was superseded by the 2026 guilty plea.

Rank #2

The Associated Press reported that prosecutors dropped the assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and offensive-weapon charges in return for the affray plea. Brown was therefore not found guilty after a trial on those original charges.

When is sentencing, and what is the possible maximum?

The CPS said sentencing was scheduled for October 26, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, the hearing was still in the future, so no sentence had been reported in the sources available for this update.

The Associated Press reported that affray carries a maximum prison sentence of three years. That is the reported legal maximum, not a prediction of the outcome or a sentence imposed on Brown.
