Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 in connection with an assault reported at a London nightclub in February 2023. The case has since advanced: Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Southwark Crown Court on 24 July 2026. Sentencing is scheduled for 26 October 2026; no sentence had been imposed as of 8 October 2026.
Why was Chris Brown arrested in England?
The arrest concerned an incident at Tape London, a nightclub in Hanover Square, on 19 February 2023. The Metropolitan Police said its investigation began that day after a report of an assault. Police later learned Brown and Akinlolu had left the UK, and a warrant was issued for their arrest, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 after returning to the UK for a concert. The Metropolitan Police said it had been alerted to his UK travel the previous day. The police account of the arrest and investigation sets out that chronology.
What did authorities say happened at the nightclub?
The CPS says its case was that Brown struck the victim twice over the head with a glass bottle, after which Akinlolu joined in and punched him. The prosecution account says the attack continued as the victim tried to flee, and that he was kicked while seated on the floor. The CPS says he went to St Mary’s Hospital with head and knee injuries.

- BROWN CHRIS EXCLUSIVE
The Metropolitan Police said CCTV enquiries showed Brown striking the victim’s head with a bottle, Akinlolu punching him, and the victim being chased, pushed to the floor and kicked. Police reported that hospital findings included a head injury and a minor knee injury. These are descriptions from the prosecution and police, not independent first-hand reporting.
What charge was announced, and what did Brown plead guilty to?
On 15 May 2025, the CPS announced that it had authorised a charge of grievous bodily harm under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. That was the original charge announced when the proceedings were active. The CPS announcement explains the charge at that stage of the case.

On 24 July 2026, Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Southwark Crown Court. The latest official updates describe the guilty plea as being to affray; they do not report a guilty plea to the original section 18 grievous bodily harm charge. The CPS update on the plea and the Metropolitan Police update give the current case status.
