It premiered at SXSW in 2024 and reached theaters in 2025. But “last” is the film’s title—not confirmation that Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have retired from working together.
What is Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie about?
The documentary looks back at the partnership between Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. Its road-trip conceit gives the film a present-day frame, while archival material and animation help tell the story of the duo’s shared history. Paramount+ describes the film as a look at their careers and relationship; it is a documentary, not a new fictional Cheech & Chong comedy.

David Bushell directed the film and shares producer credit with Robbi Chong in the SXSW festival listing. Bushell connected the title to the pair’s earlier studio release with the words, “We’re coming home.” SXSW’s 2024 film slate lists the documentary and its credits; Paramount+’s film guide provides its synopsis and release context.
Is this really Cheech & Chong’s last movie together?
There is no firm announcement in the cited interviews that Marin and Chong have sworn off future projects. In an Associated Press interview published April 25, 2025, Marin said, “It’s not necessarily. I don’t know why they named it that. Anything can happen with Cheech and Chong.” Chong joked that the billing reminded him of Cher’s goodbye tours: “I kind of compare it to Cher’s goodbye tour because she’s had, what, 18 of ’em?”

Those comments leave open the possibility of another collaboration; they do not promise one. The most accurate reading is that “last” is a provocative title, not evidence of a confirmed retirement. The Associated Press interview and a Los Angeles Times interview discuss the pair’s comments around the film.
When did the documentary come out?
The release path ran from festival to theaters and then streaming: SXSW included the film in its 2024 festival slate, followed by a theatrical rollout in 2025. Paramount+ reported it was streaming on the service’s Premium plan by April 20, 2026. Streaming catalogs, territories and plan requirements can change, so check the service’s current listing for your location before subscribing or watching.
