Chase Stokes is an actor best known for playing John B in Netflix’s Outer Banks. Away from that role, the available interviews portray a performer whose path included acting classes, bar work and small parts before his breakout—and whose fitness routine and next career chapter should be understood in the context of when he discussed them.
Who is Chase Stokes?
Stokes is an American actor who played John B across five seasons of Outer Banks, according to Netflix Tudum’s August 20, 2026 profile. John B is a fictional character; the series’ story should not be taken as a description of Stokes’s private life.
For a biographical account, Glass Magazine reports that Stokes was born in Annapolis, Maryland, and later moved to Florida to study an arts degree at the University of Central Florida. Glass does not specify the subject of that degree. In the same interview, Stokes said, “I believe in fate, and I believe in God.”

He took small roles, including one line in Stranger Things
Backstage describes his early Stranger Things appearance as a one-line role. Glass recounts that an unsuccessful audition for the series nevertheless led to a small part and connections with executives who later had links to Outer Banks. These were early steps, not an overnight transition from unknown actor to lead.
He initially hesitated over John B
Netflix’s 2026 interview says Stokes first passed on the audition for John B and accepted after being persuaded to reconsider. He recalled: “I should not have been passing on auditions,” and later described the move to the role this way: “I got a call Easter Sunday, got on a red-eye, flew to Charleston, and never went back.”

What has Stokes said about fitness?
In GQ’s October 15, 2024 Real-Life Diet interview, Stokes was 32; GQ said he had celebrated his birthday the day before the interview. He described weight training, running and Pilates as parts of his routine at that time, alongside mitt work with his stunt double during production.

He said that, when his schedule allowed, he tried to run at least three days a week for at least 25 minutes a day, combining running with some weight training. This is a dated description of his own routine, not a claim about what he does now or health advice for others. GQ also reported that he partnered with Brooks to launch the Glycerin Max running shoe; that partnership alone does not establish that he personally uses or endorses the shoe.
