Charlotte Flair’s next Women’s Tag Team Championship challenge was scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, when she and Tatum Paxley were set to face champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence on SmackDown. The match had not taken place as of October 8, so it cannot yet prove anything about the result in the ring. What the announcement does show is that the titles continue to give WWE a way to build stories around Flair in new team combinations.
What was announced for SmackDown
WWE announced on October 7 that Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley would challenge Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on the October 9 episode of SmackDown. WWE described Flair and Paxley as an “unlikely pairing”; that is the company’s promotional framing, not an independent assessment of their partnership. WWE’s match announcement lists the U.S. broadcast at 8 ET/7 CT on USA. That listing does not establish viewing options in other regions.
There is a discrepancy in WWE’s own listings: the newer match announcement calls Henley and Reid the champions, while WWE’s title-history page snapshot names Brie Bella and Paige as holders from April 18, 2026 and labels them current. For this scheduled match, the dated October 7 announcement is the clearest indication of the advertised lineup; the title-history page appears inconsistent or out of date. WWE’s title history does not resolve the conflict.
Flair’s history gives the titles a continuing story
Flair has already held these titles with Alexa Bliss. WWE’s title-history page records their reign from August 2 to November 10, 2025, a span of 100 days. That run gave Flair a substantial tag-team chapter rather than a one-off appearance in the division.

WWE’s March 30, 2026 WrestleMania preview later framed Flair and Bliss as “the unlikely partners turned best friends.” It said they were pursuing the championship again after losing it to The Kabuki Warriors. The preview credited Flair at that time with two tag team championships and 14 women’s championships; those are WWE’s figures as of that dated preview, not necessarily current totals. Why the new pairing matters
The Flair–Bliss story relied on an established bond and a shared pursuit of the belts. The announced Flair–Paxley team offers a different setup: WWE is presenting another unexpected combination, this time without the same previously established partnership described in its WrestleMania preview. The contrast shows one useful storytelling function of a tag championship: it can connect wrestlers who are not already a conventional team and give their alliance an immediate goal.

That is evidence of ongoing creative use, not proof that every title program succeeds or that the belts drive audience demand, ratings, or business value. The announcement establishes a new opportunity for a story; the match itself—and how WWE follows it—would determine what that opportunity becomes.

The event’s separate Ronda Rousey–Charlotte Flair–Becky Lynch match was identified as the first women’s WrestleMania main event. The tag-title match was part of the card, but it was not that main event. WWE’s WrestleMania 35 release.

What the October announcement does—and does not—establish
- It establishes continued story use: Flair held the titles with Bliss for a recorded 100 days in 2025, pursued them again in WWE’s WrestleMania 42 framing, and was announced for another challenge with Paxley.
- It offers a fresh team dynamic: WWE is positioning a new, unlikely pairing rather than simply continuing the Flair–Bliss partnership.
- It does not establish the outcome: the October 9 match was still upcoming as of October 8, 2026.
- It does not prove broad popularity or commercial impact: the cited WWE announcements and history establish programming and title records, not audience demand, ratings effects, or business value.
