Lawson and Olubeko met while filming Season 20 of ABC’s The Bachelorette. In its August 22, 2023 finale recap, ABC reported that Lawson chose Olubeko and became engaged to him after saying goodbye to finalist Joey Graziadei. The finale made their engagement public; it was not the date of the proposal itself. ABC’s finale recap included the couple’s immediate reactions to the proposal and Lawson’s final decision.
Olubeko later identified April 30, 2023, as the proposal date in a post marking their first year together. He recalled waiting in a hotel room in Fiji before proposing. That date comes from his retrospective account, reported by ABC News on April 30, 2024.
Early hopes for life after the show
In an August 2023 interview, the couple discussed Lawson’s upcoming Dancing with the Stars commitment, how they supported one another, and hopes for wedding celebrations in the United States and Nigeria. April 2024: They celebrate a year together and move in
On April 30, 2024, the couple marked one year since the Fiji proposal. Olubeko’s post recalled the date, while ABC News also quoted Lawson’s anniversary tribute. ABC News’ anniversary report describes the milestone as one year together.
By April 2024, they had moved in together in New York City. Lawson described the shift from the limited, highly unusual time together during filming to spending most of their time together in everyday life. She said it was “nothing was necessarily hard, it was just a bit of an adjustment period, like more surprising than hard,” as they learned each other’s habits and routines. September 2024: Wedding planning pauses, then two celebrations are discussed
In August 2024, Lawson told Us Weekly that they had paused wedding planning. She described feeling pressure to keep checking tasks off a list and wanting to ease into ordinary life. She also said they still intended to marry. These comments describe a pause in planning, not a breakup. Us Weekly’s timeline, updated August 12, 2024, reported her remarks.

In a September 5, 2024 interview, Lawson described plans for two celebrations, one in Nigeria and one in the United States, close together. She said they wanted the Nigeria event first and were discussing Northern California for the U.S. celebration. She did not share a date, explaining: “Every time I do a Q&A, people ask for the date, but that’s just something we don’t want anyone to know for our privacy.” Lawson said they would share wedding pictures after the event. The latest directly relevant reports cited here date to September 2024. They document an engagement, a shared home in New York City by April 2024, and wedding plans discussed that September. They do not establish whether Lawson and Olubeko married, remain engaged, or separated by October 3, 2026.
