Chanel Maya Banks, an actress who appeared in Gossip Girl and Blue Bloods, was reported missing by relatives in November 2024. The Los Angeles Police Department said she was found safe in Texas on November 11 and that its case was closed. Banks later said she had left voluntarily; her relatives initially questioned whether the woman found was Banks.

Why was Chanel Maya Banks reported missing?

Banks’s relatives said they had not heard from her since October 30, 2024, and reported her missing in early November. The Los Angeles Times and E! News described the family’s concern and the ensuing search. Those reports establish what her relatives said, not why contact had stopped.

What did police say about finding her?

The LAPD told media that Banks was found in Texas on November 11, 2024. Police said no foul play was suspected and that the department had closed its case, according to The Los Angeles Times and E! News. This describes the status LAPD reported at the time; the cited reports are not an underlying case file or confirmation of any later developments.

What did Banks say after she was found?

In an interview reported by True Crime News on November 13, Banks said, “Not only am I OK, but I’m finally free.” True Crime News attributed those words to Banks; they were not an official police statement.

E! News reported that Banks denied being missing and said she had taken a trip to Texas. Her account was that she had left voluntarily and wanted distance from her family. These are Banks’s reported statements, distinct from the LAPD’s account of its case.

Why did relatives challenge the identification?

Banks’s cousin and mother initially disputed whether the woman encountered by authorities was Banks. The Los Angeles Times reported both their objections and Banks’s claim that she had verified her identity with police. The reports document those competing accounts but do not independently resolve every aspect of the identification dispute.

E! News later reported that the cousin acknowledged Banks had been found, while continuing to describe tensions in the family relationship and Banks’s account. That later acknowledgment is part of the reported timeline; it does not establish the truth of every allegation made by either side.
