Spoilers for Chainsaw Man Chapter 167. The chapter does not offer a simple answer to whether Denji consents to what happens. It places three separate questions in the same charged encounter: what Denji wants, what he agrees to in that moment, and who has control over Asa’s body. Reading those questions separately makes the scene’s ambiguity—and its stakes—clearer.

Where Chapter 167 fits

VIZ lists Chainsaw Man, Chapter 167 between Chapters 166 and 168 and gives June 11, 2024 as its displayed release date. The series is created by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Read Chapter 167 on VIZ; the VIZ series page provides the broader chapter listing.

The scene’s basic tension is not simply whether Denji is attracted to someone. Yoru raises the possibility of removing his sex drive; Denji backs away, and the encounter turns into a kiss. The progression puts desire, agreement to a particular act, and control of the body in play at once. The official chapter is the place to check the sequence and wording; interpretations of what that sequence means remain readings, not confirmed explanations from Fujimoto.

Does Denji consent to what happens?

The question cannot be answered by treating interest in sex as permission for every sexual act. Wanting intimacy, discussing a sexual possibility, or having expressed desire earlier does not automatically mean consenting to a new act in a later moment. Consent is specific to what is happening, and a person can change their mind.

That distinction matters here because the scene moves from Yoru’s proposal about Denji’s sex drive to physical intimacy. Denji’s response to one proposition cannot, by itself, settle how to interpret every subsequent beat. The chapter’s rapid shift and the characters’ entangled circumstances make the moment difficult to reduce to a clear, uncomplicated yes or no. A careful reading should attend to Denji’s reactions in the panels rather than infer consent from his general characterization or presumed desire.

Whose agency is involved?

Denji’s response

Denji is a participant with desires and reactions of his own. The scene invites readers to consider whether he welcomes what is happening, but it does not make his desire a substitute for consent to a specific act. His backing away from the proposed intervention is also a meaningful response to that proposal; it should not be erased by whatever happens next.

Asa’s bodily agency

Asa’s body is involved, but the shared-body premise means that her physical presence does not straightforwardly establish that she chose the encounter. The scene raises the question of whether bodily participation and personal agency align when one person’s body can be controlled by another. Asa should not be collapsed into Yoru or treated as an uncomplicated proxy for her.

Yoru’s actions

Yoru makes the offer and acts within a body shared with Asa. That gives her a distinct role in the scene, while leaving open how responsibility should be understood when control and physical consequences are divided. This is an interpretive problem created by the chapter’s premise, not a legal or clinical verdict about the characters.

Why the shared-body premise changes the reading

Consent discussions often assume a clear relationship between the person choosing, the person acting, and the person experiencing the consequences. Chapter 167 unsettles that alignment. Denji can respond to Yoru, while Asa’s body is the means through which the encounter takes place; Asa and Yoru are not interchangeable simply because they share a body.

That structure makes the scene more than a question about whether Denji desires intimacy. It asks readers to track whose choice is being expressed, whose body is involved, and who can refuse or interrupt what is happening. The uncertainty does not make those questions irrelevant. It is the reason the scene resists a tidy verdict.

Is Chapter 167 about consent?

Consent is a useful lens for the chapter because its events place desire, specific agreement, and bodily control in tension. It is not the only possible lens, and the interpretation should not be presented as Fujimoto’s documented intention. No verifiable statement from Fujimoto or an official representative establishes that he intended this scene as a meditation on consent.

Consent was also part of reader discussion around the chapter’s release. A contemporaneous Shonen Flop discussion addresses questions involving Denji and Asa/Yoru. That records one strand of reception; it does not establish a consensus among readers or authorial intent.
