On that standard, this page can currently document one case with confidence. We are not publishing a fifteen-name list, because we have not been able to confirm fifteen individuals to the same standard, and we would rather publish fewer verified entries than fill a number with names we cannot stand behind.
The verified entry: John Travolta and Jett Travolta
John Travolta is the father of Jett Travolta. The most direct contemporaneous reporting comes from ABC News, which published a report on 2 January 2009 stating that Jett Travolta had died at age 16 in 2009. The same report attributed its account of the circumstances to the family, describing a seizure-related incident. That attribution matters: the figure and the cause come from the family’s account as relayed by ABC News, not from an independent medical or coroner’s finding published alongside the report.

The death as reported
- Parent: John Travolta, actor.
- Child: Jett Travolta, age 16 at death.
- Date: Reported by ABC News on 2 January 2009; the report gives the year as 2009.
- Circumstances: A seizure-related incident, as attributed by ABC News to the family.
A father’s public statement
The Guardian reported a statement attributed to Travolta after Jett’s death, published on 5 January 2009. In it, Travolta said: “Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered.” The quotation is printed as The Guardian reported it. It is a parent’s tribute to a child, and it is the only direct statement from Travolta that this page relies on.
Years later, ABC News interviewed Travolta about the loss on 18 February 2014. In that interview he described the people and support that helped him through grief. His account is personal testimony about his own experience. It does not describe how other parents grieve, and it should not be read as a general model for coping with a child’s death.

Why the other names are not listed
Keanu Reeves
A 2019 Guardian interview with Keanu Reeves addresses grief and loss. The coverage we could access does not establish the facts of a child’s death, including who the child was, when the death occurred, or how it happened. Without those facts, a listing would be a guess at best, so he is not included. A future version of this page could add him if a full interview or another reliable source confirms the relationship and the circumstances.
Robin Williams
Robin Williams is often mentioned in lists like this one, but he does not belong in them. CBS News reported on 13 August 2014 that his children were grieving their father after his death. That direction of the relationship is the reverse of the one this page covers: his children lost a parent, and he did not lose a child. Articles on celebrity bereavement sometimes blur the two, so the distinction is worth stating plainly.

How to check a celebrity child-loss claim
Before a name goes onto a list like this, it should pass these checks:
- Relationship: The named person must be the parent of the deceased child, confirmed by a primary statement, an official biography, or a reliable news report.
- Date and age: The report should give the date or the age, and it should say when it was published, so a reader can tell whether the information is contemporaneous.
- Cause: Causes should be marked as reported, with attribution. A family representative’s account is not the same as an official finding.
- Source type: Aggregated roundups and social posts are not sufficient on their own. Trace each claim back to the original reporting.
Applying these checks is why the list is shorter than the title suggests. A name that cannot pass them stays off the page, even if it appears on other sites.
