Several well-known figures are reported as Hull City supporters, but the sources reviewed for this article do not establish that any of the five most-cited names attended a Hull City match. The reports differ in kind. Some describe a personal link to the city, some describe a role in a supporters’ group, and one describes a stadium appearance that was not a football match. Keeping those categories apart is the only way to answer the question accurately.
The short answer
Each of the five names below has a reported connection to Hull City. None of the sources reviewed shows that any of them was seen at a match. The closest thing to an on-site appearance is a 2014 visit to the KC Stadium linked to a University of Hull event, which was not a football fixture. A report that two of them planned to attend the 2014 FA Cup final is not the same as a report that they did.
Reported connection versus documented attendance
Before looking at individuals, it helps to separate three kinds of claim that often get blurred together:
- Local or personal background: the person was born, raised or lived in Hull, which makes a supporter claim plausible but says nothing about matches.
- Introduction or social link: a friend or companion is said to have brought the person to the club.
- Organisational role: the person is named in a supporters’ group’s own history, which documents an association but not match-going.
Only a contemporaneous report placing the person at a specific fixture (a match report, a photograph, a club or newspaper account of the crowd) would establish attendance. Most of the material on these five people does not reach that standard.

The five names in detail
Tom Courtenay
Courtenay has the most personal account of any figure on the list. An Independent column describes him as born and raised in Hull and says he introduced Omar Sharif to Hull City while the two shared a London flat in the early 1960s. The Hull City Southern Supporters’ own history records that he accepted the group’s presidency around its early years, then adds a qualification: “although we never actually saw him.” That sentence is the group’s statement, and it is the most useful single line on this topic. It confirms a formal association and explicitly declines to suggest that members ever saw him at a game.
Omar Sharif
Sharif is described as a Hull City “crazy fan” in an Independent column by Rebecca Tyrrel. The same column recounts that Courtenay introduced him to the club and describes Sharif and Courtenay meeting former Hull City player Ken Wagstaff after a University of Hull event at the KC Stadium. That is a documented stadium appearance, but not a match. A compiled encyclopedia-style article on Hull City supporters cites an Evening Standard preview reporting that Sharif and Courtenay were going to the 2014 FA Cup final. Hull City reached that final against Arsenal at Wembley in May 2014. The sources reviewed do not confirm that the planned trip took place, so it should be read as a plan, not a sighting.

John Prescott
The compiled supporters article reports that Prescott became a supporter after a long life in Hull. That is a statement about allegiance. The sources reviewed do not describe him attending a match, watching at a particular ground, or appearing in any match-day record.
Mark Herman
Herman appears in the Hull City Southern Supporters’ history as a figure who became involved with the organisation, and the compiled article describes him as a supporter. It also records his work on Hull City songs and a short film made with Henry Priestman. Those are creative and organisational links to the club. None of the reviewed sources places him at a fixture.

Henry Priestman
The compiled supporters article describes Priestman as Mark Herman’s schoolfriend and a Hull City fan, and links the pair to songs about the club. That establishes a shared creative project and a reported allegiance. It does not establish match attendance.
Other names on the compiled list
The same compiled article also lists Roy North, Alan Plater, Sinitta and Stephen Malkmus among people associated with Hull City. The sources reviewed do not independently verify attendance for any of them, so they should be treated as unconfirmed leads rather than answers to the “seen at a match” question.

What the 2014 KC Stadium visit does and does not show
The one physical location tied to this group is the KC Stadium, but the reported visit was linked to a University of Hull event where Sharif and Courtenay met Ken Wagstaff. A stadium visit on a non-match day tells you about a meeting, not a crowd presence. Readers who see the KC Stadium named in a celebrity-supporter story should check whether the date coincides with a fixture.
How to check a celebrity sighting claim yourself
- Identify the original source. Trace the claim to a named article, column or club statement rather than a list that repeats it.
- Check the date and the event. Establish whether the report describes a match, a club event, a charity occasion or a social visit.
- Look for a match report or crowd account. Local newspaper match reports for the relevant fixture, and the club’s own match-day coverage, are the places a named attendee would normally appear.
- Separate plans from outcomes. A preview saying someone is going to a final is evidence of intent. Only a post-event report, photograph or account confirms attendance.
- Treat supporters’ group statements as evidence of membership or association, and read their qualifications closely.
Where the evidence stands
Five names are reported as Hull City supporters or connected figures, and the reported links are real enough to be worth recording. What the reviewed sources do not contain is a credible account of any of these five watching Hull City play. Anyone repeating the claim that they have been seen at a match should be able to name the fixture, the date and the source that reports it.
