Its central draw is a formidable alliance: Alucard joins Richter Belmont and the vampire hunters as they race to stop Erzsebet Báthory from claiming the full power of Sekhmet. Season 2 premiered January 16, 2025, and is available on Netflix.
What happens in the Season 2 trailer?
The trailer sets up a race against time. Erzsebet, the Vampire Messiah, seeks the full power of the goddess Sekhmet so she can plunge the world into endless darkness and terror. Richter, Alucard, and their allies must stop her before she becomes even more powerful.
The conflict expands the first season’s struggle against Erzsebet: the hunters face an enemy who already seems nearly invincible, while the search for what she needs takes them from Machecoul and Paris to Egypt. Netflix’s Season 2 announcement and interview describes the coming story as larger and bloodier.
Why Alucard changes the team
Alucard, Dracula’s son, joins Richter, Annette, and the vampire hunters after the Season 1 finale. Voiced by James Callis, he returns from the original Castlevania series as a powerful but reluctant mentor. His experience gives the group a guide as they try to understand Erzsebet’s plan—and his relationship with Richter adds a more personal edge to the alliance.

Showrunner Kevin Kolde told Netflix Tudum that Alucard leads Richter and Annette to Paris to search for the last element Erzsebet needs to reach Sekhmet’s full power. Kolde also described Alucard’s response to Richter as “a little bit of annoying joy.” The team-up is not simply a reunion: it puts an experienced half-vampire alongside a young Belmont still coming into his own.
Creator and showrunner Clive Bradley described Alucard as occupying a space between humans and vampires: “He’s half vampire — he has some of the powers of a vampire, but [he’s] not a vampire — so he inhabits that twilight world [with a] foot in both camps.”
