Casey Donovan played Deloris Van Cartier in the Sister Act musical, which PerthNow reported opened at Crown Theatre Perth on 26 April 2025. The role was Donovan’s first lead in a musical after about 12 years performing in musicals, according to ABC News. The stage show keeps the story but uses a new score, not the familiar songs from the film.

Deloris is closely associated with Whoopi Goldberg, who played the character in the film. Donovan described her approach to the role to PerthNow’s Kellie Balaam on 26 April 2025: “I pay a lot of respect to Whoopi on stage, but the great thing about musical theatre is making a character your own.”
Who was in the Perth cast?
PerthNow’s 26 April 2025 report named Genevieve Lemon as Mother Superior and Rhonda Burchmore as Sister Mary Lazarus. It described the Perth engagement as the tour’s final stop at that time.

How the stage musical differs from the film
The musical retains the film’s storyline but has new songs by composer Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater. It does not use the film soundtrack’s song parodies, so audiences should not expect the familiar movie songs. In an ABC News interview published 1 September 2024, Donovan said: “The music is different, and I know that disappoints a lot of people, but it’s the same storyline,” and called the production “fun, it’s joyful, it’s silly, and it’s full of a powerhouse cast.”
That distinction separates the two versions without diminishing either: the film established the character’s screen identity, while the stage production gives Deloris a different musical setting. PerthNow quoted Donovan describing the character—spelling her name “Dolores” in the article—as “such a fun, witty, front-footed character. She really is just this ball of energy.”
