The figure is the result for that specific lot, not a current asking price or a general measure of the costume’s market value.
What sold at Heritage Auctions
Heritage Auctions’ archived record for lot 89354 describes a seven-piece costume ensemble associated with Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983). The auction house identifies it as production-made, with resin and urethane pieces from sculptor Richard Miller’s collection, based on designs by costume designer Nilo Rodis-Jamero. The lot comprised a bikini brassiere, front and back plates, two hip rings, an armlet, and a bracelet. Heritage says Miller built a wire armature on a mannequin made from Fisher’s body cast, then sculpted details using wax and jewelry-making techniques. Its description calls the set an “iconic 7-piece costume ensemble” created by Miller, then chief sculptor at Industrial Light & Magic.
What the $175,000 price means
Heritage records a sale price of $175,000 on July 26, 2024. That is the documented result for this lot—not a current offer, a recurring price, or a reliable estimate for other Leia memorabilia. Before the auction, Gizmodo reported a $30,000 starting bid; that opening figure was not the final sale price. Gizmodo’s July 2, 2024 report covered the planned auction and its then-scheduled dates.

How original was the costume?
The distinction between production-made costume pieces and recreated components matters. Gizmodo reported that the brassiere was an early rigid-resin version, with an eye-hook repair and glue residue on the inside—details it presented as clues to on-set use and efforts to make the piece more comfortable for Fisher. It also noted that textile components and the included wig were recreations. The auctioned ensemble should therefore not be described as an entirely original, screen-worn outfit in every material and component.
Can you still buy this Princess Leia bikini?
No—not from the 2024 Heritage auction. That lot has a recorded sale result, and the available auction record does not establish whether it has since been resold or who owns it now. The sources cited here also do not verify current stock for replicas, or whether any replica is officially licensed. Treat any present-day listing as a separate item and check its provenance, which parts are reproduced, condition, seller, and current price before buying.
