After completing the Great Wall of China half marathon earlier in 2024, Australian television personality Carrie Bickmore shared a photo of her feet and joked about her missing toenails, PerthNow reported on 15 July 2024. The post was a gag about the state of her feet—not a serious announcement about starting an OnlyFans account.
What Carrie Bickmore posted
PerthNow reported that Bickmore’s photo showed both second toenails reduced to stubs after falling off. The outlet reproduced her caption: “Try not to get too turned on 🤣 Between losing 2 toenails post china marathon…and how enormous my big toes are……I really should start an only fans account 🥵🤣.”
The joke prompted humorous replies from Tommy Little and Sophie Monk, according to PerthNow’s report. The article describes the image and comments, but does not establish why Bickmore’s nails fell off or report a clinical diagnosis.
Why toenails can loosen after a long run
Repeated pressure, shearing and friction can make a toenail strike the front or side of a shoe. Cleveland Clinic describes this kind of damage as runner’s toe; it can cause bruising or blood beneath the nail, tenderness, and a nail that loosens or falls off. This is general context, not evidence that Bickmore had runner’s toe: Cleveland Clinic’s explainer does not diagnose her or confirm the cause of her injury.

Fit and friction matter for runners
For runners looking to reduce foot irritation, guidance from sports-medicine and dermatology organizations emphasizes comfortable footwear and appropriate socks. Cleveland Clinic recommends having feet sized to ensure enough room in the toe box. The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine says proper sock fit and thickness can help avoid blisters and irritation, while the American Academy of Dermatology discusses specialized socks, two sock layers, or pads, gels and sprays for areas that routinely blister.
These are general prevention suggestions, not a guarantee against toenail damage. The cited sources do not establish that any particular shoe, sock or product would prevent nail loss or would have prevented Bickmore’s experience. If a toenail is loose
Cleveland Clinic quotes podiatrist Georgeanne Botek, DPM, advising: “Resist the temptation to pull a loose nail.” The article says pulling it can tear and scar the nail bed. That is general guidance; seek advice from a healthcare professional about an individual injury.
