Carolyn Wiger finished third in Survivor 44 with zero jury votes, despite entering the finale with a memorable strategic move and a season-long reputation for being underestimated. She later said the result shocked and hurt her—and that the jurors’ reactions shook her confidence at Final Tribal Council.
How the Survivor 44 jury voted
Yam Yam Arocho won Survivor 44 in a 7–1–0 vote: seven jurors chose Yam Yam, one chose Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, and none chose Carolyn. Heidi had won the final immunity challenge and eliminated Carson Garrett in fire-making, setting the final three. TVLine’s May 25, 2023 finale report describes Yam Yam’s social strengths and likability as central to his jury appeal.
Why Carolyn said the result surprised her
In a May 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, reprinted by Yahoo Entertainment, Wiger said she was “shocked as hell” and “hurt” to receive no votes. She thought Frannie Marin and Carson Garrett might vote for her. She expected Danny Massa and Brandon Donlon to place greater value on physical ability or “tribe strength.” The Yahoo reprint is a secondary access point to that interview.
Her expectation was understandable given her season arc, but a strong connection with viewers or a visible move does not automatically translate into a jury vote. At Final Tribal Council, the jurors assess the finalists’ cases against one another; the tally shows that Carolyn did not persuade any juror to choose her over Yam Yam or Heidi.

What made Final Tribal Council difficult for her
Wiger told Mike Bloom of Parade that the jury had been her biggest fear. Facing their stone-faced reactions, she said, made her feel as though she was slowly falling apart and letting them get in her head. “It was really, really hard for me to face them,” she said, adding, “It sort of hurt me.” Parade published the interview on May 25, 2023.
She said she still had fight in her, but wished she had stood up for herself more. The moment helps explain the gap between Carolyn’s distinctive, emotionally open presence throughout the season and her ability to confidently explain her game to the jury at the end.

Carolyn’s game—and the case she needed to make
Carolyn, Yam Yam, and Carson formed the Tika majority early in the game. Others often underestimated her as eccentric or less threatening, an impression that became part of her story. She was also the first person to find an idol that season and later played it to save Carson, demonstrating strategic agency, as Parade’s interview recounts.
Those elements offered material for a strong finalist’s case, but they were not the same as securing votes. Carolyn said emotional authenticity was central to how she played, while she also struggled to separate game deception from genuine human relationships. At the final, she felt intimidated by the jury and lost confidence while trying to explain her decisions. Yam Yam, by contrast, won seven votes; TVLine reported that jurors recognized Carolyn was smart and had been underestimated, yet none wrote her name down.

- Boxed Game
That contrast is why the result could feel so jarring: Carolyn had a compelling season and a clear strategic moment, but the jury rewarded Yam Yam’s case decisively. In her conversation with TVLine after the finale, she said, “I feel good,” while emphasizing that she was happy for Yam Yam.
