The joke is the contrast: internet remarks meet calm, polished delivery.
Who is the anchor reading the comments?
Coverage identifies the creator as Carissa Codel, a Missouri news anchor associated with Ozarks First and Fox 49. The Independent described her as anchoring the station’s morning news in its December 7, 2025, report; that is a dated description, not confirmation of her current role.
What is the “Reading Viewer Comments” format?
The Express Tribune reported on December 9, 2025, that Codel began the series in August 2025, after receiving comments about her appearance. The outlet calls it “Reading Viewer Comments”; that is coverage’s name for the series, rather than a title verified here as official.
In the videos, Codel reads selected remarks in a composed newsreader cadence. Their humor comes from the gap between the often exaggerated or rude tone of online comments and the measured delivery viewers associate with a broadcast news report. Coverage describes these as social-media videos, not segments aired during a station newscast.

Why did she choose the newsreader voice?
The Express Tribune quoted Codel explaining that some remarks struck her as funny, and that she wanted the video to stand out: “I personally thought they were hilarious and showed how often women in this field are scrutinised for their appearance. I wanted my video reading the comments to stand out, so that’s where the newscaster voice came in.” The remark frames the format as both a comic choice and a response to scrutiny directed at women in broadcast journalism.
Codel also described how she chooses what to include. The Independent quoted her: “It doesn’t affect me at all. I think that they’re hilarious…I don’t put up the extremely mean ones, but I like the insults that are very creative.” The clips therefore feature selected comments, not a complete record of audience reactions; she says she leaves out the most vicious ones.

What makes the format distinctive?
Compared with conversational comment-reading clips, Codel’s reported approach draws on the contrast between a working news anchor’s polished on-air persona and comments delivered in a deliberately formal cadence. The humor depends on the performance and on the choice of material; it does not make the comments representative of all viewers or of feedback received by the station.
