The 80th Festival de Cannes is scheduled for May 11–22, 2027. Cannes is not a walk-in festival: access to the Festival area and most screenings generally requires accreditation, and accreditation does not mean every screening has an available ticket. For the practical details that have been published so far, the latest operating reference is the 2026 edition; confirm 2027 rules before booking around them.

When is the 2027 Cannes Film Festival?

The Festival de Cannes is scheduled for May 11–22, 2027, according to the Festival’s official website and Cannes Tourism. The detailed practical procedures described below are mostly from 2026, so treat them as guidance on how the event has operated, not as confirmed 2027 dates or rules.

Can the public attend Cannes?

Not in the same way as a conventional public film festival. The Festival describes itself as an event for film-industry professionals who need accreditation to enter the Festival area. There are some public-facing programs, but a visitor should not assume that a trip to Cannes alone permits entry to the Palais, Competition screenings or red-carpet ceremonies. See the official FAQ for current visitor information.

Industry accreditation

The Festival’s accreditation page says professional accreditation is intended for film-industry professionals and requires an application with supporting documents. For 2026, the ordinary application window ran from February 2 to April 15, with a late-application charge applying from April 1. The 2026 page also listed a €20 environmental contribution per accredited participant. These are edition-specific details, not the 2027 calendar or fee; check the accreditation page for the next edition’s conditions.

3 Days in Cannes

In 2026, the 3 Days in Cannes program was open to film enthusiasts aged 18–28, with three sessions during the Festival. Its badge offered access to Official Selection screenings at Cineum and, subject to space and on a first-come, first-served basis, some Palais screenings; professionals had priority. Eligibility, sessions and access conditions may change for 2027, so wait for the new program details before making plans around it.

Public-facing screenings

The Festival FAQ points visitors to Cannes Cinéma and Cinéma de la Plage as ways to experience Festival-related films. Cinéma de la Plage screenings are described by the Festival as free. These programs do not mean that the full Official Selection is publicly ticketed; check the current program, dates and venues.

Which route to Cannes is right for you?

Route Who it is for What access may include What to know
Professional accreditation Eligible film-industry professionals Festival-area and screening access determined by badge category, with ticket reservations subject to availability Application and supporting documents are required. The 2027 window and terms are not yet established in the cited 2026 information.
3 Days in Cannes In 2026, film enthusiasts aged 18–28 That edition offered Official Selection access at Cineum and limited first-come, first-served access to some Palais screenings 2026 eligibility and access rules are not confirmation of the 2027 program.
Public-facing programs Visitors without Festival accreditation Selected Festival-related screenings, including free Cinéma de la Plage screenings as described by the Festival Program and venue details vary; this is not general access to the Official Selection.
Remote coverage Anyone following from elsewhere Festival articles, interviews, photos, videos, podcasts and TV Festival coverage The Festival FAQ does not establish that film screenings themselves are livestreamed.

How do screening tickets and reservations work?

For 2026, the Festival’s online ticket office was restricted to accredited Festival and parallel-section attendees. Reservations were free but subject to availability, and the badge category affected which screenings a person could reserve. A badge therefore did not guarantee a place at every screening. The 2026 ticket office opened May 4, with reservations beginning May 8; those dates should not be used as a 2027 schedule. Check the official ticketing page for current-edition arrangements.

The 2026 system used personal tickets that could be shown on a phone or on paper. The Festival’s My Cannes app provided access to ticketing and practical information. A charged phone can be useful for digital tickets and schedules; a power bank is an optional convenience, not an entry requirement.

Last-minute queues

If you have no reservation, the Festival says you may try a last-minute queue when seats remain. It reported that more than 18,000 spectators were admitted through queues in 2025. That figure describes the 2025 Festival; it does not promise that a particular queue, film or 2027 screening will have room. Treat the queue as a chance to fill an empty seat, not a substitute for a ticket.

Arrival times and seat guarantees

Follow the arrival time and conditions shown on your ticket and allow time for security checks. The Festival says admission is no longer possible once a screening has begun. Its published admission guidance says an allocated seat is guaranteed until 10 minutes before most screenings and until 25 minutes before Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings. Check the current ticket for the applicable time slot and conditions.

The Festival says the Official Selection screening schedule is downloadable about one week before opening. Avoid fixing a film-by-film itinerary too early: check the current schedule and ticket portal when they become available.

What should you wear, and does a ticket get you onto the red carpet?

For Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings around 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., the Festival FAQ specifies evening wear: a long dress or tuxedo. Do not extend that rule automatically to every screening or venue; consult the current ticket and Festival-Goer’s Charter for the event you plan to attend.

A screening ticket is not an invitation to the red-carpet ceremony. The Festival’s 2026 charter states: “The ticket guarantees access to the film screening, not to a Red Carpet Ceremony.”

How do you get to Cannes and travel between venues?

Arriving in Cannes

The Festival’s transport page says an airport coach from Nice–Côte d’Azur Airport Terminal 2 reaches Cannes SNCF station in about 45 minutes. The station is a short walk from the Palais. The page also gives a Paris-to-Cannes TGV estimate, but journey times and services can change; check the train or coach operator’s timetable for your travel date. See the Festival transport information.

Local buses

For the 2026 edition, badge holders could use PalmBus free of charge by showing a QR code in My Cannes. The Festival specifically described Palm Express A between central Cannes and Cineum, with boarding near the SNCF station. Its admission page said the Festival Pass QR code was valid on the PalmBus network from May 12–23, 2026. These dates and arrangements are not confirmed for 2027; check the visitor guide and bus information before relying on free travel or a particular service.

Where should you stay, and how early should you plan?

The Festival visitor-support page describes a centralized hotel-booking platform arranged with local hospitality partners. It does not establish room prices or guarantee availability. Start looking early for the fixed Festival dates, then confirm the accommodation’s location, cancellation conditions and booking terms directly. The platform is described on the visitor support page.

The Festival’s ticketing page describes an event welcoming 35,000–40,000 festival-goers and organizing 5–6 Official Selection screenings per day in each of its 10 theatres. The page does not state the year for those figures; they are an official indication of scale, not an independent attendance audit.

What accessibility support is available?

The Festival provides a practical guide for visitors with disabilities and describes accessible airport facilities, accessible airport-to-Cannes buses on line 81, reserved spaces on PalmBus, permission for assistance dogs, and accessible buses serving Cineum. Venue arrangements and individual needs can differ, so consult the latest accessibility guide and contact the Festival about specific requirements before travelling. Visitor support also describes a trained hospitality team and dedicated support spaces for accredited visitors; check the current site for contact details and hours.

How can you follow Cannes remotely?

If you cannot attend in person, the Festival’s bilingual website offers articles, interviews, photos, videos and podcasts, alongside TV Festival coverage during the event. These are ways to follow films, events and awards; the FAQ does not say that screenings are necessarily livestreamed.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
