Yes—if you already have the combined KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ Dark Road app and its data, you can still use its offline content. Online service ended June 30, 2021 UTC, but the two games became different kinds of offline experiences: Union χ is primarily a story theater with mini-games and records, while Dark Road retains story and battle gameplay. Whether Apple or Google currently offers a download or redownload is not established by the official information cited here.
What happened to the app?
Square Enix announced the planned closure in February 2021, then set the end of online service for June 29, 2021 PDT, which was June 30, 2021 UTC. The publisher transitioned the combined app to offline use rather than keeping its online service running. Its notices describe the transition and the content that remained available: Union χ service-closure notice and offline-version notice.

The app’s names reflect its history. Square Enix’s archive records that it began as Unchained χ, became Union χ in 2017, and took the Union χ Dark Road name in 2020. The archive also records Union χ’s offline transition in 2021 and Dark Road’s in 2022: KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ Dark Road archive.
What can you play offline?
| App content | Offline experience |
|---|---|
| Union χ | Story theater, avatar customization, records, and five Classic Kingdom mini-games. Story quests and other playable sections were no longer available, according to Square Enix’s service-closure notice. |
| Dark Road | Its offline update added the main quest, battles, world battle, albums, shop, and crafting, according to Square Enix’s offline-version notice. |
Dark Road was initially unplayable in version 4.4.0; Square Enix planned to add its gameplay in version 5.0.0. The publisher’s later offline notice documents the playable Dark Road features. Union χ therefore functions mainly as a way to revisit its story and preserved records, whereas Dark Road kept more of its original gameplay.

In a February 25, 2021 letter to fans, KINGDOM HEARTS series director Tetsuya Nomura wrote: “I’d also love to see those who have yet to experience the game journey with us to its conclusion.” The offline transition preserved a way to experience parts of the games after online service ended, but it did not preserve Union χ’s quests as playable content.
