YouTube says creators can repeat the setup process to run multiple live streams at once, subject to a limit. Its guidance treats ending and archiving a stream as a separate workflow. That supports starting a new stream while an earlier recording processes, but YouTube does not explicitly guarantee that archive processing can never block a new broadcast. If Live Control Room lets you set up and start the new stream, you can proceed.
Why a pending archive usually does not require you to wait
When a livestream ends, YouTube handles its recording as an archive. Setting up and starting another broadcast is a separate workflow: YouTube’s encoder instructions describe creating a stream, connecting an encoder, and going live, while its archive guidance covers what happens after a stream ends. The guidance does not say that the earlier recording must finish processing before you can start again.
YouTube also says creators can repeat the setup process to broadcast multiple live streams at once, up to a limit. Taken together, these instructions support starting a separate stream while an earlier archive is pending. This is an inference from YouTube’s published guidance, not an explicit processing-specific guarantee. YouTube’s cited guidance does not state the numeric limit or a general archive-processing time.
Start the next stream safely
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select the upcoming stream. Check that you have selected the intended event rather than the earlier broadcast.
- Connect the encoder to the selected stream. Use that stream’s server URL and stream key in your encoder. A key for a different stream may send video to the wrong event.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Follow Live Control Room’s prompts, and confirm the expected picture and audio before going live. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video quality in its livestream tips.
- Go live when the preview is ready. If YouTube accepts the setup and the preview looks right, the earlier archive’s processing status is not, by itself, a reason given in YouTube’s guidance to wait.
For the full encoder workflow, see YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder and its live stream settings guide.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Protect the recording of the stream that ended
Starting a new broadcast and preserving the earlier recording are separate concerns. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube does not give a general processing-time estimate in the cited guidance. For important events, it recommends keeping a local recording as a backup, and its livestream tips advise checking that the local archive file is growing. These precautions do not speed up processing on YouTube’s servers.
See YouTube’s archive guidance for the conditions and backup recommendation. The viewer-facing DVR setting is a separate issue from whether an archive is still processing; YouTube explains DVR in its DVR help page.

If Live Control Room or your encoder will not start
- Confirm the selected event and key. Make sure Live Control Room and the encoder are using the same stream’s server URL and stream key.
- Check the preview before retrying. Follow the prompts in Live Control Room and verify that video and audio appear as expected.
- If a third-party encoder reports a startup error, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests generating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder. This is an encoder troubleshooting step, not a fix for slow archive processing. See YouTube’s livestream troubleshooting page.
- If the new stream still cannot be started, use the error shown in Live Control Room to guide the next step. YouTube’s published guidance does not establish that a pending archive is the cause or provide a processing-time threshold after which it should block a broadcast.
