No—not through YouTube’s standard OBS-to-YouTube workflow. A Premiere is a scheduled upload that YouTube starts at its scheduled time; OBS encoder auto-start applies to live streams. If you want a live pre-show before a Premiere, YouTube’s Live Redirect can hand viewers from the live stream to the scheduled Premiere, but it does not make OBS start the Premiere.
How a YouTube Premiere starts
A Premiere is created from an uploaded video in YouTube Studio. You schedule it there, and YouTube runs the countdown at the selected time before playing the video for viewers together. The start is controlled by the Premiere schedule, not by OBS sending an encoder feed. YouTube Help: Premiere a new video
Schedule the Premiere
- Upload the finished video in YouTube Studio.
- In the video’s visibility and scheduling flow, choose Schedule and set the date and time.
- Select Set as Premiere. Choose countdown options if you want them, then schedule the video.
- Share the resulting public watch page so viewers can visit before the event, set reminders, and participate in chat and comments where available.
Check YouTube’s current Premiere requirements before scheduling: its help page says Shorts are not supported, and that 360/VR180 video or output greater than 1080p is not supported for Premieres. YouTube Help: Premiere a new video
What OBS auto-start controls
YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting is for a live stream. When it is enabled, the creator can start streaming from the encoder; that setting does not document OBS as a way to trigger a scheduled Premiere. A live stream is a real-time feed, while a Premiere is a scheduled playback of an uploaded video. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings YouTube Help: Learn about live streams

| Workflow | What viewers see | What starts it |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Premiere | A countdown, then an uploaded video played together | The scheduled time set in YouTube Studio |
| YouTube live stream via encoder | A real-time video and audio feed | The encoder sends the configured stream when live-stream auto-start is enabled |
| Live Redirect | Viewers are sent from a live stream to the Premiere | The live-stream redirect hands off viewers; the Premiere remains scheduled |
How to run a live pre-show before a Premiere
- Schedule the Premiere first in YouTube Studio and note its public watch page.
- Create and configure a separate YouTube live stream for the pre-show. Set up the encoder and stream settings in Studio.
- Configure the live stream’s Live Redirect to send viewers to the Premiere, following YouTube’s current live-stream settings. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
- Tell viewers that the live portion will hand them off to the scheduled Premiere. The redirect moves the audience; it does not start or replace the Premiere.
When to use OBS instead
Use OBS encoder auto-start when your intended event is a real-time live stream. Confirm that auto-start is enabled for the YouTube live stream in Studio and that OBS is configured to send to the intended stream. Do not rely on that live-stream setting to start an uploaded Premiere.
The distinction matters for documentaries and other prerecorded programs: if viewers should watch the same finished upload together with a scheduled countdown, schedule a Premiere. If you need live camera, narration, or a real-time program, configure a live stream through OBS.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video playing as a YouTube live stream rather than schedule a Premiere, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on, streams uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
This is for an always-on prerecorded live stream, not for triggering a YouTube Premiere. YouTube’s native Premiere and live-stream workflows remain distinct.
