Yes. Instagram’s Reels Friends tab can show public Reels that friends have liked, along with Reels they created, reposted, or commented on. Meta says users can hide their own likes and comments from that tab, but its announcement does not confirm the current settings path or whether the control is available on every account.
What Instagram’s Reels Friends tab can show
Meta announced the Friends tab as a feature at the top of Reels. It can surface public content friends have interacted with, including Reels they liked, created, reposted, or commented on. It may also include recommendations from Blends that users have started. Meta said the feature was launching globally on August 6, 2025, after an earlier rollout; that launch statement does not guarantee every account has the same interface today. Meta’s announcement describes the feature and its intended scope.
This is visibility in the Friends tab, not evidence that Instagram sends every like to every friend or makes all liked Reels visible in every part of the app.
How to hide your likes from the Friends tab
Meta said it was rolling out controls to hide your own likes and comments on Reels in the Friends tab. The company did not publish an exact settings route or current control label in its announcement, so the available option and its location may differ by account or app version.

- Open Instagram and check the app’s settings for a control related to what appears in the Reels Friends tab.
- If you find the option to hide your likes and comments there, use it to adjust their visibility in that tab.
Do not assume this control hides likes in every other Instagram context: Meta’s announcement describes the Friends-tab setting, not a universal privacy switch.

Meta also announced an option to mute activity bubbles from specific accounts you follow. That is separate from hiding your own likes and comments: one concerns whose activity you see, while the other concerns whether your activity appears in the Friends tab.
