Can Baby Elves Be Touched? There is no rule that applies to every elf. The answer depends on the particular book, game, or folklore tradition: the sources available here do not establish a universal prohibition on touching elf babies.
Why there is no universal answer
“Elf” can mean a character in a specific fictional world or a being in one of many folklore traditions. Those settings do not share a single set of rules. To answer precisely, first ask: do you mean elves from a particular book or game, or elves in folklore?
What Tolkien’s writing says about Elven children
A reference to Tolkien’s “Laws and Customs among the Eldar” describes the text as addressing Elven children’s physical and mental development and their individual identity. It does not state that touching an Elf child is forbidden. This is information about Tolkien’s fictional Eldar, not a rule for elves in general. Source
What changeling stories describe
Changeling tales concern a different question: a human child is taken and a substitute is left in its place. - For folklore: identify the particular tradition or story. Folklore does not have one consistent set of rules about elves.
