Generally, yes. YouTube documents limits that allow a channel to have up to 10 active live streams at once, with no more than 3 active streams per stream key. A monetized channel can also enable ads on a live stream. But YouTube does not explicitly guarantee this exact combination—a continuous stream alongside another live video—and enabling ads does not guarantee that an ad will appear for every viewer or at every break.
Two separate questions: can both streams run, and can one show ads?
YouTube’s documented stream limits support having a 24/7 broadcast and another live video active at the same time, provided the channel stays within the concurrency caps. This is an inference from YouTube’s separate feature documentation, not an express guarantee of every continuous-stream setup. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
Ad eligibility is separate. A channel can enable monetization for a live stream, but YouTube’s ad system decides whether an available ad slot actually serves. So “run ads” can mean enabling ads; it cannot promise that every viewer will see one or that ads will run continuously.
Check the concurrent-stream limits
- Per channel: up to 10 active streams.
- Per stream key: up to 3 active streams.
YouTube says both limits apply at the same time. If the channel or the stream key is already at its cap, another stream cannot be started under that arrangement. Check the active streams in Live Control Room and ensure the streams use keys within the applicable limit.

What must be in place for live-stream ad revenue
- Join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Ad and YouTube Premium revenue for live-stream content watched on the Watch Page requires YPP participation. Review YouTube’s earning overview for current eligibility information; requirements and policy details can change.
- Accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. This module applies to earning ad and YouTube Premium revenue from Watch Page content. See YouTube’s monetization options.
- Turn monetization on for the live stream. A channel’s general YPP status alone does not mean monetization is enabled on every broadcast. Check the setting for the specific stream.
- Meet YouTube’s content, advertiser-friendly, and rights requirements. Creators must have the necessary rights to the stream’s visual and audio elements, and the content and channel must comply with applicable policies.
Even when all of these conditions are met, an enabled ad setting makes the stream eligible for ads; it does not guarantee that an ad will serve in a particular slot.
Choose how mid-roll ads are handled
YouTube’s live-stream monetization controls offer automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-roll approaches. Pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on when monetization is enabled. Mid-roll delivery remains subject to YouTube’s ad system.

- Automatic mid-rolls: YouTube can place mid-rolls automatically. In Live Control Room, automatic mid-rolls can be delayed for 10 minutes; manually placed breaks still display.
- Scheduled mid-rolls: The documented interval choices are 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes.
- Manual mid-rolls: You choose when to insert a break. If you do not insert one, no manual mid-roll is served.
YouTube explicitly cautions that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. For details, see Monetize your live stream.
Does looping content put monetization at risk?
A 24/7 duration by itself is not identified in these policies as an automatic disqualification. The relevant question is whether the actual material and channel meet YouTube’s rules. Its monetization policy expects content to be original and authentic; mass-produced, generic, or repetitive material may be ineligible. A minimally varied loop could therefore create a monetization risk, but the outcome depends on the content and channel review—not merely on the fact that the stream is continuous.

YouTube says reviewers may consider the channel’s overall theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time distribution, metadata, and About section. Make sure the material is your original creation or that you hold the necessary rights, and avoid treating a loop as automatically safe simply because it is live. Do not confuse two formats with two streams
YouTube’s Live Control Room can create horizontal and vertical versions that share one stream URL and chat. That dual-format output is different from running two independent broadcasts. YouTube’s comparison table lists pre-roll and mid-roll ads for horizontal streams, but not for the vertical live feed. Confirm the format-specific options in YouTube’s current controls rather than assuming that ad behavior is identical across formats.

Practical checks before starting the second broadcast
- In Live Control Room, confirm the channel has fewer than 10 active streams and that the stream key to be used has fewer than 3.
- For each broadcast, verify its intended format and the correct stream key.
- Confirm YPP status and acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module for Watch Page revenue.
- Check that monetization is enabled for the specific live stream and choose the desired mid-roll approach.
- Review the loop and the channel as a whole for originality, rights, advertiser suitability, and policy compliance.
What YouTube has reported about automatic mid-rolls
YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not. The January 2024 comparison averaged results across 207 countries. This is YouTube’s group comparison, not a forecast for an individual channel or evidence specifically about 24/7 broadcasts.

No. Its documented concurrency limits support the arrangement, but YouTube does not expressly guarantee every 24/7-plus-another-stream configuration.
Will every viewer see an ad if monetization is enabled?

Can I control live mid-roll placement with a Stream Deck?
