Not reliably by default. A cloud service may keep playing the loop while its YouTube connection is interrupted, but YouTube does not promise that a live event will remain uninterrupted when you reset its stream key. YouTube’s documented recovery step is to copy the new key and update the encoder. Whether a particular cloud service can reconnect—and whether it resumes the same live event—depends on how that service handles the new credential.
What a stream key reset changes
A YouTube stream key is a credential the encoder uses, along with YouTube’s server URL, to send a feed to YouTube. YouTube compares it to a stream’s password and address. Resetting it generates a new key, so an encoder still using the old key may no longer be able to deliver its feed.
YouTube’s instructions say to copy the newly generated key and update the encoder software. Its troubleshooting guidance likewise recommends getting a new key and updating the encoder when third-party encoder software cannot start. If the software connects through account login instead of a stream key, YouTube directs creators to contact that software’s support team.

What happens to a cloud loop during the reset?
There are two separate things to consider: whether the video continues playing inside the cloud service, and whether YouTube continues receiving and displaying the live feed. A cloud-hosted loop can persist independently of a local computer, but that alone does not establish that the service has the replacement key, can reconnect its YouTube destination automatically, or can do so without a gap.
YouTube’s published reset instructions establish that the encoder needs the new key; they do not specify what an individual cloud provider does with its loop or connection during key rotation. Do not assume that uninterrupted playback inside the provider means viewers will see a continuously live YouTube event.

What to verify with your cloud provider
Before relying on a service for a stream where a key reset might occur, ask support these specific questions:
- Does the service store the YouTube stream key, and how do I replace it after resetting the key in YouTube Studio?
- Will the existing destination connection fail when YouTube invalidates the old key, and does the service attempt to reconnect?
- Does reconnecting resume the same scheduled or live event, or could it start a new event?
- Does the uploaded loop continue playing in the cloud while the YouTube destination reconnects?
- Is recovery automatic, or must I take an action in the service interface? Is there a documented or testable procedure?
These are provider-specific questions, not behaviors guaranteed by YouTube. If uninterrupted viewing matters, agree on a safe reset procedure with the provider before the event rather than testing it during an important broadcast.

What YouTube documents—and what it does not
For an encoder setup, YouTube says to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. For a scheduled stream, the creator waits for the preview and clicks Go live. YouTube also recommends testing a backup encoder by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network and verifying that the player rolls over. That is advice about encoder failover; it is not a promise that a backup encoder or cloud relay will preserve an event when its destination key is reset.
