Can a 24/7 YouTube Livestream Make Money With Copyright-Safe Music?

A 24/7 YouTube music stream can earn revenue, but eligibility, ad delivery, and music rights all matter. Here’s how to check a license, avoid Content ID interruptions, and understand the limits.

Yes—but a 24/7 YouTube livestream does not automatically earn money just because it stays on air. A channel must qualify for and enable the relevant YouTube monetization features, ads are not guaranteed to run, and the music must be licensed for the actual use: a continuous, potentially monetized YouTube livestream and, if applicable, its archived replay.

How a 24/7 music livestream can earn money

YouTube lists live-stream ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as potential revenue sources, subject to eligibility for each feature and enabling it. For Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue on live streams, creators must accept YouTube’s Watch Page Monetization Module. When turning on ads, creators also confirm they have the rights to the stream’s audio and visual elements. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and its overview of monetization options.

Ad formats may include pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads. Mid-rolls can be automatic or manually placed, but YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A long broadcast may create more opportunities for viewers to encounter a monetized moment, but duration alone does not guarantee ad delivery, revenue, or a particular monthly income. YouTube’s live monetization guidance does not establish a defensible earnings estimate for a 24/7 music stream, so a general channel RPM should not be treated as a forecast for one.

What “copyright-safe” needs to mean

The relevant question is not whether a track is advertised as “copyright-free,” but whether you have the rights required for your specific broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. A license for personal listening, background use in a conventional video, or a limited campaign may not cover a monetized, continuous livestream.

Get the scope confirmed before you go live

Ask the rights holder or music service to confirm in writing that your permission covers:

  • Commercial use on YouTube livestreams, including monetization.
  • Continuous or 24-hour broadcasting, rather than only a standard-length video.
  • The territories in which the stream will be available.
  • Any archived replay of the livestream, if you intend to keep it public.
  • Whether your channel must be added to a Content ID allowlist, and how long that process takes.

Keep the license, receipts or account records, and a list of the tracks used. These records do not replace the necessary rights, but they help you verify what was licensed and respond if a rights issue arises.

Why a licensed track can still interrupt your stream

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If its systems detect content, YouTube may display a placeholder and warn the streamer; if the content remains, the livestream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. YouTube also warns that licensed third-party content may interrupt a stream if the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Confirm and complete any required allowlisting before broadcasting. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

If you archive the broadcast, a Content ID claim may arrive after the livestream ends. Check that the license covers the replay as well as the live transmission, and do not assume permission for one automatically includes the other.

Do not use Creator Music as a livestream license

YouTube’s Creator Music usage guidance says its tracks offered for licensing or revenue sharing may be used in long-form videos, not live streams. It therefore is not a solution for background music in a 24/7 livestream. The same guidance describes Creator Music as available to U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion outside the United States pending as stated there; availability and terms can change. Check YouTube’s Creator Music usage details for current rules.

A practical pre-launch checklist

  1. Check channel eligibility. Confirm in YouTube Studio which live monetization features your channel can use, and enable only those you qualify for.
  2. Confirm the music rights. Obtain written confirmation that the license covers monetized YouTube live use, continuous broadcasting, your intended territories, and the archived replay if you will retain one.
  3. Complete allowlisting if required. Ask the licensor whether your channel needs to be added to a Content ID allowlist. Do this before the stream starts.
  4. Retain documentation. Keep license terms and track records accessible while the broadcast is running and afterward.
  5. Set monetization appropriately. For Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module and confirm rights to all audio and visual elements when prompted.
  6. Monitor the live feed and archive. Watch for YouTube warnings or interruptions, and review the archived stream for claims after it ends.

Keep the stream running without leaving a computer on

If you want to keep uploaded, rights-cleared music playing on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Each slot streams the files as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo does not provide music rights: you still need permission for every track and the broadcast use described above. Start the free day with StreamNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use copyrighted music in a YouTube live stream if I have a license?

Potentially, if the license covers your particular live, monetized YouTube use and any replay you keep. Confirm whether the rights holder also requires Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent an interruption.

Does Creator Music let me use licensed tracks in a 24/7 livestream?

No. YouTube’s Creator Music usage guidance limits its licensing and revenue-sharing tracks to long-form videos, not livestreams.
