The episode did not give Dixon a farewell; the show explained her absence in the Season 24 premiere by saying she had moved to Miami with her son. That fictional explanation is separate from any reason Manheim left the series.
When did Camryn Manheim leave Law & Order?
Manheim’s departure was reported on May 10, 2024. She did not return for Season 24 after playing Lt. Kate Dixon for three seasons. The May 16 Season 23 finale, “In Harm’s Way,” was her final episode. TVLine reported the departure and included statements from Manheim; TV Insider confirmed the timing and final episode.
Was Kate Dixon’s exit shown in the finale?
No. “In Harm’s Way” did not announce that Dixon was leaving or give her a farewell. Contemporary coverage described the finale as focused on its case and District Attorney Nicholas Baxter rather than on a send-off for Dixon. TV Insider’s departure report identified the finale as Manheim’s last episode, and its May 15 finale preview also said it would be her final appearance.
What happened to Kate Dixon?
The Season 24 premiere supplied an explanation after the finale had left Dixon’s status unaddressed: Dixon moved to Miami with her son Patrick after he got a job at a school. This is the series’ in-story explanation for the character’s absence, not a confirmed explanation for Manheim’s real-world departure. Yahoo Entertainment reported the explanation given in the Season 24 premiere.

Why did Camryn Manheim leave?
The cited departure reports and public statements do not establish why Manheim left. Dick Wolf thanked her for three seasons helping relaunch the series and wished her well; Manheim described her time with the Law & Order cast as an “incredible experience” and said she was looking forward to what came next. Neither statement identifies a specific cause, so claims of a firing, contract dispute, personal choice, or creative decision are not supported by these reports. TVLine reproduced Manheim’s comments, while TV Insider reported Wolf’s statement.
